MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Pete Snyder, BART Director, introduced Val Menotti, BART Planning Department, and
Jeffrey Tumlin, of Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates. Mr. Tumlin presented an update of
the BART 1-580 Corridor Transit Study. He described the ridership and ultimate destinations of
commuters. He showed maps of the proposed routes for various options for expansion in the
1-580 Corridor. Explanations were given of the alternative modes of transportation such as
tBART, DMU (diesel multiple unit) and buses. He noted the cost considerations for each option
presented. He then commented on the next phases of the project and what they included.

Mr. Campbell asked if the federal government would be providing any funding?

Mr. Tumlin indicated there were many competing transportation projects and therefore
there is no guarantee of funding for this project from the federal government, especially if there
is not agreement among the cities of the Tri-Valley on a preferred option.

Mr. Brozosky asked if there were funding sources from the state?

Mr. Tumlin said there was not much state funding available, however Alameda County
has a large fund to use as leverage for any available state or federal funding.

Mayor Pico referred to Option 4 and asked if an option had been considered that did not
include a BART component, but was just a bus route, so people did not have to transfer from a
bus to BART and then to another bus.

Pleasanton City Council 4 06/17/03
Minutes
