MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Mary Giess, Vice-President of the Friends of Gingerbread Preschool Parents, with her children, Joseph, Jack, and Annie, on behalf of Gingerbread Preschool staff, parents, and students, thanked the Council for proclaiming April 6 - 12 on the Week of the Young Child. This is an annual celebration of early childhood and is a tribute to all those people in the community who help teach and support young children. It is designed to help each of us make the most of the unique opportunities inherent in the early years. The City of Pleasanton has demonstrated this as it continues to provide programs such as Gingerbread Preschool for the community's young children. Next week at Gingerbread they will be participating in a special food drive for the Tri-Valley Haven. Parents will bid on their children's art work with canned food and the week will culminate with an Ice Cream Social, April 12 - 13 at Gingerbread. She invited people to come and enjoy ice cream. The children then gave Councilmembers a lapel pins to wear in honor of the Week of the Young Child and invitations to attend the ice cream social. Mayor Pico mentioned that the artwork, including the triceratops dinosaur, in the lobby was created by students of Gingerbread. Ms. Ayala presented Ms. Giess' children with the proclamation. Lisa Adamos and James Paxson, President of Hacienda Owners Association, introduced a tax savings tool for both employers and employees called the Commuter Choice Tax Benefit Program. The Tri Valley Resource Team on Air Quality created a brochure guide for the program, providing the community with a new oppommity to understand the program and how it can benefit them and implement it.
