Mr. Knowles indicated that if Sunol metering of inbound traffic is discontinued, it would
be ideal for him to be able to meter Vineyard traffic, not Stanley, to get a sampling of inbound
traffic that is not fi.om Pleasanton residents.

Ms. Ayala indicated metering at Ruby Hill was part of her prior motion and it was
adopted.

Item 6b

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Hosterman, to discontinue metering
along Sunol Boulevard and not to meter traffic at Stanley and Valley/Bernal at this time.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Brozosky, Hosterman, and Mayor Pico
NOES: Councilmember Campbell
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Ms. Hosterman believed that with the forecast of increased traffic the decision for
metering will be back before Council sooner than you think.

Mr. Campbell said that was his point. The City ought to continue the metering that is
working.

Mayor Pico said metering works but at what price? He was not sure he was ready to pay
that price right now in terms of the impact on some of the neighbors in order to relieve a problem
in another part of town. He would like to see what happens when it is tttmed off. He also
wanted to see what happens when the meters are turned on at the freeway. He also wanted to see
what happens once construction on Sunol is complete and whether the signs in Pleasanton Hills
will have a lasting impact on cut through traffic, etc. There is additional testing that is
necessary. There are multiple solutions and he wants to see variations of them.

Item 6c

It was moved by Mr. Campbell, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, to activate on ramp
metering on 580, but only if CalTrans is agreeable to discontinuing the on ramp metering if
the City requests it.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Brozosky, Campbell, and Mayor Pico
NOES: Councilmembers Ayala and Hosterman
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Ms. Hosterman felt it was better to get an agreement with CalTrans before taking this
vote.

Pleasanton City Council 24 02/18/03
Minutes
