5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Gail Gilpin described the program for honoring business anniversaries in Pleasanton and <br />the contributions by them and their employees to the community. She announced the names of <br />the businesses in operation in Pleasanton for 20 years. The following business were presented <br />with plaques: Valley Plumbing Home Centers (Mike Cheney); Stephen Anastasiou M.D.; Boyd <br />Bookkeeping, Inc. (Kathy Turpin and Tiffany Evans); Berlogar Geotechnical Consultants (Frank <br />Berlogar); Tobacco Loft (Russell Graham); Hacienda Business Park Owners Association (James <br />Paxson); and Pathfinders in Communication (Bfigitte Rodgers). <br /> <br /> Mr. Cheney, Dr. Anastasiou and Mr. Paxson expressed their appreciation for the <br />recognition. <br /> <br /> The following businesses were honored, but representatives were unable to attend the <br />meeting: Amador Electric, Wilson's-The Leather Experts, Dr. Teresita Laron, Alexander & <br />Associates, Quantum Plus Inc., Chateau Electric, Inc., Shields World Travel, Motel 6, MBM <br />Corporation, Rhondalynn Summers Ph.D., and Dillingham Construction. <br /> <br /> Charles Huff, on behalf of Amador-Livermore Valley Historical Society, presented a <br />check for $26,623.46 to the City. The represented the proceeds from the second annual Udder <br />Event fundraiser for restoration of the Alviso Adobe. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico commented that the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory will be <br />celebrating its 50th anniversary on September 18, 2002. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico announced that last week the City received the 318 acres of public land on <br />the Bemal Property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Campbell commented that this is an incredible opportunity for the City and he was <br />looking forward to the great amenities that will be built on that property. He thanked all the <br />people involved in this transaction. <br /> <br /> Ms. Michelotti said this was a long time in coming. She has been working on this since <br />she was a Planning Commissioner and then a City Councilmember. The citizens of Pleasanton <br />have a real asset and she hoped it would be used wisely. It will take a long time to build out. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala related comments from the developers who presented the property to the City <br />that this was a unique opportunity that they had never seen before. She looked forward to the <br />citizens having a voice in what happens on this property. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dennis indicated this was an exciting opportunity for the community. She was in the <br />audience when San Francisco Mayor Agnost presented the first proposal for this property. One <br />of the ways she has gotten to know the community best was in seeing how it wanted to use this <br />property. The community bas great vision for the land and expresses the heart and soul of the <br />community.
