The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers -Ayala, Campbell, Dennis, Michelotti, and Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Presentations

Gail Gilpin indicated that Utility Vault and Ford Roberts, DDS, have been in operation in
Pleasanton for 30 years. Mr. Campbell presented a plaque to Miles Bennett and Kelly Daken,
representing Utility Vault. Dr. Roberts was unable to attend the meeting and had sent his
apologies.

Mr. Bennett thanked Council for the recognition and briefly explained what the company
does and its origins.

Other Speakers

Kurt Kummer, 4456 Clovewood Lane, indicated there is an elementary school and high
school in the Highland Oaks area with lots of children walking to school in the morning and
afternoon. He strongly opposed the proposed West Las Positas interchange. He believed that
people will get offthe freeway when it is congested and cut through the neighborhood. He did
not believe the interchange would benefit Pleasanton residents, only commuters from other
cities. He indicated he would gather signatures to set aside the matter if Council approved it.

Mayor Pico pointed out there is a West Las Positas Committee that has been studying this
and the report will be before Council soon.

Mr. Lum stated the report has been finalized and is on the City's website. It will be
presented to the Planning Commission in April and will be before Council soon after that.

Mayor Pico indicated that Council was proclaiming March 20, 2002, as the Iranian New
Year and recognized the contributions that the Iranian people have made to the City of
Pleasanton and this country. He attended their New Year celebration last weekend and
commented on the importance of recognizing their cultural heritage and the diversity in the
community.

Pleasanton City Council 4 03/19/02
Minutes
