using the roadway. Of the additional 22,000 cars, less than 25% would be Pleasanton residents.
The remaining will be for cars coming from Dublin, Livermore, Tracy, and other 580 commute
traffic. There are currently 225,000 cars using 580. She was very concerned about traffic that
would get off580 in the event of a major accident that blocks the highway. She referred to the
major changes that have occurred in San Jose, where she grew up. She does not go back there
today because it used to be a small suburb and it is now a major metropolitan area. She
acknowledged there are some positive aspects of growth, but she moved to Pleasanton because
of its quality of life and theme of planned progress. She hoped her children could experience the
life she had when she was growing up, including riding bicycles on Stoneridge Drive. If that
road is extended, she did not think she could do that. When she bought her home, she asked
what would happen on the Busch property and was told negotiations were underway to develop
the property, but was not told there were plans for a four to six lane thoroughfare that would
accommodate over 45,000 cars and the possibility of thousands more. She encouraged Council
to make certain the developers give appropriate disclosures to potential homeowners regarding
traffic.

Mayor Pico acknowledge the process is ongoing and realized there is a great deal of
controversy about this issue.

6.
