Ms. Michelotti wanted to make it clear that this is not a Council action, but the action of
one member to continue an item, which is allowed under the Council Procedures.

Ms. Michelotti also asked for clarification that the work load justified eliminating the
second meetings in November and December.

Ms. McKeehan explained that if required a special meeting could be scheduled.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Campbell, Dennis, Michelotti, and Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTA1N: None

5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Gall Gilpin presented a brief report recognizing businesses in operation in Pleasanton for
twenty years. Those businesses unable to send representatives were: The San Francisco Music
Box, Helping Hand Landscape, Inc., Lifetouch Portrait Studios, Inc., Performance Electric, Inc.,
Zales, Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chippery, KB Toys, Gary Ogden, D.C., Clubsport of Pleasanton,
Striderite Just Kids Shoes and The Gap. Business representatives present to receive recognition
were from the following businesses: Pleasanton Tool & Manufacturing, Inc., Florsheim Shoe
Shop, Felice Price Financial Services, Home & Business Computer Center, Buttercup Pantry,
Calipso's, Carin For Hair, and Callahan Property Company.

Joe Callahan observed that everything seems kind of trivial after the events of last week.
Whoever did this will be found and punished and the country will be stronger for it. This
focuses us on something greater than our day-to-day concerns. He said the first time he ever
talked to the City Council was in the cafeteria at the Fairgrounds, where Council used to meet.
The City has come a long way despite the fact that we don't always agree among ourselves. He
felt the opportunities exist to do a lot more to maintain and improve the quality of life. He
saluted Council for restoring civility in the community and making a sincere effort to bring us
together. There was a period in the nineties where there was a lot of unproductive divisiveness.
We must respect each others differing opinions and he felt there was value in debate and
discussion. As long as we are patient enough, we will reach a reasonable compromise.

Bob Strain, Buttercup Pantry, said he has been working in Pleasanton for many years and
was impressed with the way the city staffhas kept up with the growth in population. He has
dealt with everyone from the police to the water department and the response has always been
quick and professional. He is proud to be part of the community.

Susan Moms, Calipso's, thanked her employees and clients. They are why the business
has been here for twenty years. She has seen a lot of changes and it has been great.

Pleasanton City Council 7 09/18/01
Minutes
