they represent like to send representatives to California during December and January, especially
from Chicago and other places on the East Coast.

Gary Hamlin, Garlex Pizza, thanked the City of Pleasanton for honoring businesses.

Debra Doble, Sallman, Yang & Alameda, said her company was happy to be a part of the
team in Pleasanton. She looked forward to many years to come.

Wendy Barnes, Jewelers Gallery, also thanked the City for its support. When her
company came to Pleasanton it was a quiet little town. When the downtown improvements were
done in 1992, there were very few people on Main Street. Because of the support of loyal
customers, they are still here today. She looked forward to many more years in town.

Mike Machi, Management Recruiters, indicated his company was part of a national
organization of 1,000 offices. He was very pleased to be in Pleasanton. He loved having a
commute of three miles.

Charles Huffsaid it has been a lot of fun operating a business in Pleasanton. He came to
town in 1980. His wife was expecting their first child, he had left his architectural finn, started
his own firm and doubled his mortgage, but he is glad he did. It has been fun working on
projects in the area, including residential and commercial. He has worked through various
Planning Commissions and City Councils and seen the City change in the last 21 years. He
could not have dreamed how things turned out, and he is happy to be a member of the
community and to be involved in things with the community. He has an interest in history and is
preparing a history of the area for publication. He said there are very few towns in the Bay Area
that have a downtown like Pleasanton.

Joe Madden, 5950 Coronado Lane, on behalf of the Tri-Valley Convention and Visitors
Bureau Board of Directors, introduced Any Blaschka, the new Executive Director. She most
recently worked as an executive with SBG Enterprise Brand and Design Consultancy Finn in
San Francisco. She is a native of San Ramon, where she attended California High School and is
a graduate of the University of California at San Diego. She resides in Pleasanton with her
husband, Todd, and sixteen month old daughter, Alexis. He believed her strong marketing and
communications background will be a benefit to this organization and the communities that are
served.

Amy Blaschka, 3928 West Las Positas, thanked Council for welcoming her. She was
excited about her new role. This area has special interest for her since she grew up in San
Ramon and is now raising her family in Pleasanton. It is a treat to market an area she actually
lives in. She set forth her goals for her first ninety days in office. Internally, she wants to
develop internal controls for proper checks and balances; a program budget for better
accountability and allocation of funds and clarity for adherence to procedures. Externally, she
plans to meet with regional organizations and other members to better understand their
businesses and needs and ways to work together. She will then create a strategic plan to promote
this area and will build on past successes, since there have been quite a few. She will then

Pleasanton City Council 5 11/06/01
Minutes
