PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS Item 6a Approval of School Resource Officer Program and acceptance of Community Oriented Policing "Cops in the Schools" Grant (SR00:323) Police Chief Tim Neal presented the staff report. Mr. Campbell asked what happens after thee years when the grant funds am no longer available. Ms. Acosta indicated that the program would be evaluated and if found to be successful, it would be added for consideration in the City's operating budget. Ms. Ayala asked if there were a format for evaluating the program. Chief Neal indicated the grant includes requirements for evaluating its effectiveness. The real purpose is to make the officers part of the campus life and special events. Pleasanton has taken a very proactive position in dealing with the youth of the city. We are trying to establish community-oriented policing and to create an understanding with the youth of the community. Ms. Dennis believed this will help the Police Depariment as well as the youth. Mr. Campbell asked for further details about the officers' presence on the campus. Chief Neal said the officers will be in uniform and armed and will work out of offices at the campus.
