Ms. McKeehan indicated she could get that information for him. She said the City's role
is to provide for the citizens in a variety of ways for many issues. There is a balance of what is
done and when.

Ms. Ayala pointed out that when the State mandates actions, it is sometimes difficult to
accomplish immediately when funding is not provided.

There was general discussion about unfunded state mandates.

Mayor Pico summarized that information would be provided by staff to Council
regarding the sidewalk program and compliance efforts. Similar concerns were raised a few
meetings ago about what the City is doing to provide for cultural arts. If the City added up all
the various programs and financial commitments it makes to improving accessibility, paratransit
programs, etc., one would find the City is making a significant expenditure in this area. He
suggested providing this information at the next budget cycle.

It was moved by Mr. Campbell, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to add the City of
Pleasanton's name to the "friend of the court" brief that is being prepared in support of the
City of Sacramento.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Campbell, Dennis, Michelotti, and Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

7. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL

Ms. Dennis referred to improvements being made to the transfer station for the
commercial recycling plan. She inquired if Council would be interested in having a
representative from Pleasanton Garbage Service come to a future Council meeting to present an
update. Council agreed.

CITY COUNCIL CALENDAR

No action was required.

CLOSED SESSION

The scheduled Closed Session was canceled.

Pleasanton City Council 11 08/21/01
Minutes
