Mr. Jost said yes.

Ms. Michelotfi expressed her concerns on the west side berms. She thought the
development was not happening right away on the west side and she is still opposed to
the 18-foot l~nns that are going to take away the view across the field.

Mr. Pico said that the City has already agreed to all of this as part of the
development agreement including the cost of maintaining the berrns. He said ultimately
they knew they were going to take up a significant portion of the area. It is part of the
price the City is paying.

Ms. Ayala asked about the improvements to 1-680 and when do we anticipate that
tho~e will be complete?

Mr. Jost said it would be around the year 2004 before those improvements are
completed.

Mr. Lure said there is an extended Caitrans process for proceeding with the
improvements. Tonight on the agenda wes the approval of the consultant to proceed with
the project environmental study report, which will take about one year. It would be
another year for design work and then yet another year to year and a half to construct. It
will take a total of several years to do the project.

Ms. Ayaia said it is feasible that the office building would be complete and
occupied before those improvements are in place.

Mr. Jost said this is true.

Ms. Michelotti asked about the removal of the trees on the south side on Bernai
Avenue. Most of the trees are on the south side.

Mr. Jost said basically all of the trees on the south side would be removed.

Ms. Michelotti asked if all of the trees in the gully were going to be removed?
How is the pathway along the road affected; does that get moved over also?

Mr. Jost said the intersections would get modified so that the pathway does fie in
closer to the actual curb of Bemal Avenue.

Mr. Pico commented that potentially three trees would be removed at Bernal and
Valley to make the let~ turn lane into the project. He said everyone has been told two of
the Sycamore trees will be removed. He would hope that staff would be able to keep it to
two rather than three.

Plemanton City Council 36 07/17/01
Minutes
