residents do not have the time during the day to come down and turn something into City <br />Council because they are at work. Two years ago they met and discussed ail of this. <br />They were aware at that time the extension money was gone. They are also concerned <br />because the trail people have been aware of this for a longer time than the residents. The <br />residents are requesting that they be given the same amount of time to be able to go over <br />this. She realized there is a deadline to be met, but the residents have been told this <br />before and it turned out not to be true. She is sure there can be an extension that can be <br />applied for. This would give them time to go over the plan and get more information to <br />the Parkside residents. In June a fire was experienced on the south side caused by <br />children and a house was thought to be in jeopardy. In that same vicinity there has been <br />two thefts in the month of June. The police have been cailed because of motorized <br />bicycles on the trail and by the time they send someone out, the culprit is gone. The <br />residents are not against the trails because they know this is something that is going to be <br />coming. They are asking for time to educate the people and for the City to consider the <br />north side because then it does not encroach on anyone. The Sports Park is on one side <br />of the residents and it inundates their lives. They enjoy the Sports Park, but after work <br />and on weekends residents find it difficult to get in and out of their neighborhood because <br />of the congestion of cars. <br /> <br /> Howard Neely, 448 Amador Court, felt that new trails were needed in the City. <br />As times change, people need to work at getting aiong better. The police have mountain <br />bikes and motorized bikes to patrol the trails. He urged newcomers to look at the Trails <br />Master Plan put together in 1993. He proposed that the City stay ahead of the times by <br />providing more trails. <br /> <br /> Trent Jones, 3625 Tom/ga Drive, (9 years old) said that he and his family and <br />friends enjoy bicycling because it is a fun way to get around Pleasanton. Trails provide a <br />safe route fi'om the busy streets for safely getting around town. Residents should not <br />have to go to other cities to use trails. <br /> <br /> Jan Batcheller, 644 St. Mary Street, said trails are a unique aspect that not many <br />communities have. They afford everyone a unique perspective of Pleasanton. She first <br />became involved in the trails while working on the Centenniai Project. They built an <br />under crossing under Valley Avenue along the Arroyo Del Vaile. It was at that time she <br />met the many wonderful people involved in the trails and became familiar with the Trail <br />Master Plan. She believed it is in the best interest of all of the citizens of Pleasanton to <br />have ail of the trails on the Master Plan open for walking and biking. It is a safe way to <br />keep the community healthy. While a few people may be inconvenienced, she would like <br />to remind everyone that the neighbors opposed to the Iron Horse Trails now find it a <br />wonderful convenience and it has increased their property vaiues. She urged Council to <br />do the right thing for the majority of the Pleasanton residents and open this section. <br /> <br /> Joanie Fields, 4053 Walnut Drive, said her husband' and several of his friends run <br />four to five times a week on the Arroyo or at the Pleasanton Middle School track. These <br />are places that do not endanger their lives with traffic congestion.
