Karen Sweet, 12233 North Flynn Road, Livermore, representing the Vision 2010
committee, thanked Council for its efforts in fostering relationships with the agricultural
community especially with regard to Measure D. She urged Council to continue its neutrality in
defending Measure D.

Jack Dove, 5250 Case Avenue, thanked Council for its reception of the supporters of
affordable housing at the last Council meeting. He indicated the members of his group do not
think the site of Pedro's Restaurant would be a good place for affordable housing. He indicated
most of the properties in Hacienda Business Park pay assessments for the North Pleasanton
Improvement District and that makes the cost of the property very high. He calculated that if
there were 100 units on that site, each unit would pay $1,000 per month and he believed that no
developer could provide affordable housing on this site. He believed that property in Hacienda
Business Park would be about $1-2 million per acre and did not feel there would be a possibility
for affordable housing anywhere in the business park. He further stated there is a great need for
moderately priced housing and felt that would fit in the business park. He thanked Council for
its consideration and urged it to consider higher density housing where possible in the City to
provide more "affordable" housing.

Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, announced the 81st Rowell Ranch Rodeo on
May 19-20, 2000. This is part of the area's heritage and encouraged attendance.

Jon Harvey, 3790 Smallwood, requested Council to join an amicus curiae brief
supporting Alameda County in defending the open space initiative that passed last November
from a lawsuit seeking to overturn it. The reasons for this are the voters approved the initiative
and those implementing the initiative assume it will hold up in court. He said people on both
sides of the issue are working well together and making progress. He asked for an agenda item
on the May 15 agenda.

6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS

Item 6d
Adoption of City Arts Facility Plan and Acceptance of a City Arts Marketing Study
(SR 01:107)

James W. Wolfe introduced Andy Jorgensen, who presented the staff report.

Mayor Pico asked if potential commercial space had been considered for possible joint
partnerships, such as the Fairgrounds or the Vintage Hills Shopping Center.

Mr. Wolfe said the focus was not on where the amenities would be placed, but rather on
identifying the amenities. He was confident the locations and possible joint partnerships would
be discussed in more detail in the future.

Mr. Campbell asked about the size of the Dean Lesher Center in Walnut Creek and
whether it incorporated all the amenities Pleasanton is looking for.

Pleasanton City Council 4 05/08/01
Minutes
