This is what is needed and all points of view need to be considered and too often groups
that have conflicting desires do not show up at the same meeting. She hoped that they
would be there throughout the process. The housing element needs to be redone by
December, so this is a fairly short timeline and their interest was extremely timely. She
also recommended they get in touch with the Housing Committee for Vision 2010 so they
can participate in other cities' since they are also looking to work with housing
advocates. Pleasanton is not the only place that needs housing.

A motion was made by Ms. Dennis, seconded by Ms. Ayala, that the Council
reconsider its prior decision that the current land use designation for the property
at Hopyard Road and Gibraltar Drive is appropriate.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, and Mayor Pico
NOES: Councilmember Michelotti
ABSENT: Councilmember Campbell
ABSTAIN: None

Mayor Pico said with respect to setting up a blue ribbon task force committee,
that the process already set up needs to be honored. It was incumbent upon Council to
not interfere with that process and there is an opportunity for everyone in the community
to comment during that process. All of the commissions, including the Housing
Commission, will be making presentations addressing the various needs. His sense is
that he would like to see the folks present tonight follow up on the issue of affordable
housing and to continue through the process. He suggested they address and approach
the Housing Commission and there will be a joint Council - Housing Commission
Workshop taking place April 24.

Ms. McKeehan clarified that the proceeding vote meant that the item would be
agendized for another discussion by the Council and that staffwill try to agendize that as
soon as possible, possibly the second meeting in May.

Ms. Dennis said that in the meantime representatives from these groups should
attend meetings that address this housing.

Ms. McKeehan said that the group could decide on how they would like to be
noticed and could provide names to the Deputy City Clerk before leaving tonight or call
the City Hall in the morning. Names and numbers will be given to the Deputy City Clerk
and will be notified with future notices.

Ms. Dennis asked if a process has been designed for reviewing the housing
element?

Ms. McKeehan said that Council would be considering that at one of the two next
Council meetings. The staff report is in progress at the present time. Council will have
ultimate decision, obviously, on how that process works.

Pleasanton City Council 14 04/17/01
Minutes
