MEETING OPEN TO ~ PUBLIC

Stewart Gary, Fire Chief, presented a commendation to Police Officer Scot~
Mullin on his outstanding contribution in response to an apartment fire on September 19,
2000 at 3819 Vineyard Avenue. OIYtcer Mullin, who is trained as a volunteer firefighter,
determined the need to evacuate the affected apamnent units. He single handedly
evacuated and searched every room of all six apartments. He got one hysterical occupant
out of one apartment after breaking the door down when the occupant refused to leave the
unit. By the time the first fire crew arrived, he was able to give the crew an "all clear" on
all six of the aparUnents. This is very important became the fire department pfiofifizes
life over property, but for the crew to inmaediately know that it no longer had a rescue
problem, the fire department was immediately able to get the fire under con~xol. Fire
Chief Gary commended Officer Mullin for responding promptly and appropriately during
a dangerous event, to greatly assist Pleasanton citizens in a time of need in a critical
situation. He said that one of LPFD's core values is commitment to caring, shared by all
Pleasanton employees, and Officer Mullin exemplifies that commim~ent.

Ms. Ayala, on behalf of the City, commended Officer Mullin, for the wonderful
job he did.

Pleasanton City Council 3 10/17/00
Minutes
