right to reproductive freedom and the right to live as long as we can. We need to move
aside and let other people into the commtmity.

Mayor Tarver stated his belief that the j obs/housing balance was a myth. Them is
a problem making the connections between jobs and the people in the conununity.

Ms. Hurst felt companies could establish satellite facilities.

Ms. Dennis liked the suggestion of petitioning the Attomey General to make other
communities provide housing.

Ms. Michelotti pointed out that there is also an Economic Development
Department that tries to match jobs to housing.

Christine Steiner, 596 Hamilton Way, referred to an old saying "many in haste,
repent at leisure." She believed San Francisco and Mayor Brown were pressuring the
City of Pleasanton. She commended the staff and Greenbrier for working so diligently in
putting this plan together, and for providing affordable housing that is integrated into the
overall design. She was also pleased that second units will be provided over some of the
garages. She would prefer to have more housing and at a higher density to preserve the
open space. She was pleased Greenbrier agreed to work with a golf course consultant.
She felt that was a lerge piece of property to maintain if it were not a golf course. She
had mixed feelings about moving the bero~ closer to housing. She thought it would be an
atlractivc nuisance for children, who could go over it and be out of sight. She wanted to
make certain the golf course was well designed and felt it should be part of the plan that
goes to the voters. Her other major concern was regarding the lbrty acres for a high
school. She felt strongly that should be part of Phase II and should definitely go to a vote
of the people. She felt there were better public uses for the site than a school. Ms.
Steiner believed it would be a girl of public property. She recognized the fact that these
are difficult decisions and commended everyone lbr their dedication. She especially
cormnended Ms. Dennis for sttu~ding by her opinions. Council must decide if this is truly
the best for the City in financial and planning terms. If there are serious reservations for
this project, then Council should send a message back to Mayor Brown.

Cerl Pretzcl, 3633 Glacier Court North, indicated he had served on the San
Francisco Task Force. He felt this project was 99% positive and only l% negative. His
concerns were about the land by the arroyo. He did not want houses within the 100 year
flood plane. Unless the canal is improved to 27,000 cubic feet per second, there will be
flooding upstream. This land allows us to do what is necessary to solve the problems.
The developer did a great job in designing the housing, In terms of the berm, there are
office buildings that block the same amount of view and the berms can be no worse than
that. 64% of the people were willing to pay for the same land. Now we are getf~ng it for
free. If it goes to a vote, he was sure it would be approved. This is a dream plan and it
should not be thrown away.

Pleasanton City Council 10 08/21/00
Minutes
