Brian Swift presented an overview of the project approvals. Ms. Demtis asked staff to respond to an email message that raised archeological questions about the site. Mr. Swift. responded there are two known archeological sites on both sides of the freeway just south of Bemal Avenue. The conditions of approval require an archeologist to identify the extent and content of the sites before any grading is done. Staff believes the area on the western side would be protected in whatever public use is decided for that area. That will be decided in Phase II and by then the archeological study will be comple~d and the area identified. The site on the eastern side of the freeway is proposed for potential office use. The conditions again require that the area be studied and the recommendations of lhe archeologist will be part of the project review and recommendations for mitigations. If any Indian remains are Ibund it will be decided how to modify the office plans. These sites were identified in the EIR and have been discussed with Mr. Gmoser (the author of the eraall) on several occasions, Ms. Michelotti inquired if the size of the sports park area was filly acres.
