from Vineyard Avenue. He felt about $90,000 was being spent to resolve speeding
problems on Montevino and Cmstablanca and felt the residents shotrid contribute to some
of those costs. IIe agreed with using rubberized asphalt, but felt staff should wait until
after the infrastructure is installed for the Vineyard Corridor so it doesn't have to bc
ripped up later. With regard to the proposal to mconfigure Vineyard Avenue and remove
lanes, he felt staff has better things to do with their time. They should concentrate on
other roads. There are quality of life issues in Pleasanton regarding traffic and he l~lt
people are concemed this is not the small town that they were used to. He urged staff to
do a better job of coordinating the traffic and traffic signals to reduce stress on the
drivers,

Mark Posson, 3036 Chardonnay Drive, endorsed the recommendations in the staff
report with the exception of the suggestion for Sauterne Drive. The neighborhood would
like the one-way in street with landscaping and a soundwall li:nce. He asked Council to
accept that plan. The reason this all sturted was because of the Vineyard Corridor
Specific Plan.

Mattrice Dissel, 3533 Vineyard Avenue, indicated when these discussions first
started, them was a proposal to take some of his property, but he has not heard that
proposal this evening. He supported use of rubberized asphalt. He referred to discussion
about installation of traffic signals and asked if that would infringe on his property.

Mr. van Geldcr said the current proposal does not include a traffic signal at
VineyardjTawny/Bemal, so there is no effect on Mr. Dissel's property. He was unaware
of any discussion about taking any of Mr. Dissel's property. There is a long range plan
of making Bemal Avenue four lanes, but that is in the distant future. He indicated there
is discussion of a traffic signal at north Vineyard and Bemal, but not at Vineyard/Tawny.

Sue Shafi~r, 3477 Bcmal Avenue, commended staff for its cooperation, Her
home's driveway faces Bemal Avenue. He biggest concern was widening Bcrtml, but the
plans for striping modifications are reasonable at this time. She also supported the
rubberized asphalt near her home. She said it is very noisy thee. She did not agree with
reducing lanes on Vineyard and believed it would only force traffic onto other streets.

Bob Shaffer, 3477 Bemal Avenue, reiterated the eoncems expressed by his wife.
He liked the double turn lanes and rubberized asphalt.

There were no further speakers.

Ms. Michelotti was concerned about the $5,000 allocated for further stody of
Vineyard Avenue and would like that removed.

Mayor Tarvet felt the stop sign at Montevino created a lot of trouble. He did not
think lbur lanes were needed becanse traffic will just be funneled to two lanes again
farther along the road. Four lane~ cause people to drive faster.

Pleasanton City Council 20 07/11/00
Minutes
