He also suppotted a golf coursc on the site. <br /> <br /> Assemblyman Tom Torlakson, Chairman of the Transportation Committee of the <br />State Assembly and Co-Chair of the Local Government Caucus, reported on activities <br />concerning the return of properly taxes to address local transportation problems. The <br />Legislature is working on a four point transportation plan to make more efficient use of <br />the funds collected and to take more of the State general fund for transportation. He is <br />proposing a bill ( AB 1612) that would return $100 million a y~ar to local government for <br />street r,~airs and for public transportation services. The third par of the plan is to <br />propose bond issues for expansion of public transpo~on projects like the extension of <br />BART. The fourth point is the renewal of the half cent sales tax. He acknowledged that <br />more work needs to be done in balancing jobs and housing and to manage growth. He <br />also reco_oniTmt the need to remove State roadblocks to the expeditious construction of <br />schools end in~. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala referred to the joint meeting of th~ S~hool Board and City Council and <br />the suggestion of reVrmenm~ves from each body going to Sa~amento to di~uss <br />financing for the City and School District. <br /> <br /> Assemblyman Torlakson commended the joint cooperation and pledged his <br />support. <br /> <br /> Jack Hovingh, 4250 Muirwood Drive, referred to a ne~ article <br />comm~mdin~ Becky Denni.~. He exprms~ his concern about any limitalien of public <br />testimony. <br /> <br /> Panlctte Salisbury, 6170 Corte Trancus, thanked Council for placing the edvisory <br />measure on th~ ballot regarding the injection of reverse osmosis fretted water into the <br />groundwater. She urSed citizens to vote against this measure. She did not want <br />Pleasanton to be a guinea pig for this process. She did not believe Pleasanton needs this <br />water and did not want to run the rL_~lc Of contmmimd4rtg the ~und water supply. If <br />the grolffld*vvater bitsin is contaminated, it iS irreversible. Zone 7 has indicated there is <br />enough water for Valley uses without adding the treated water. She believed this process <br />is bein~ used for Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) to increase sewer <br />capacity. She said the water to be injected into the groundwater would come from the <br />local residences, businesses, Santa Rita prison, hospitals, labs and industrial operations. <br />She did not want anything injected into the grotmdwater basin. She asked people to vote <br />no on Measure J. <br /> <br /> Peggy Pureell, 2472 Via de los Milagros, indicated the groundwater basin insu~s <br />the residents of the V alley fxom loss of water supply in dry years and flexibility in the <br />event of disaster. It is a great resource and needs to be protected.
