Ms. Michelotti asked if there were still dentonstraf~on light poles available.

Mr. Fulford said the City owns six poles. These are similar to the poles at other
parks in the City, such as Valley Trails or Sutter Gate Park.

Ms. Ayala asked if complaints were received from any of these other parks.

Mr. Wolfe said no. He related that staffhad just completed renovation of
Fairlands Park and the neighbors did not want pathway lights; but later came back and
asked for the lights to be installed.

Ms. Dennis indicated she had seen improvements in her neighborhood with the
new lights at the Upper Field and has not received complaints from the Valley Trails
area. She did not like having dark pathways and supported the lighting.

Ms. Michelotti supported the pathway lighting and toning down the field lights.
She considered continuing the matter for two weeks to have further discussion with the
neighbors.

Ms. Ayala did not want this to go on and on. She believed Council represented all
of Pleasanton and consideration should be given to changing lifestyles. She reiterated her
request for assurance that these are the best lights available for lighting only the path.

It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to approve the plans
and specifications for the Pleasanton Sports Park pathway lighting, Project No.
987063 and authorize staff to call for bids, with the understanding that shields will
be installed on all lights; consideration will be given to planting trees in affected
areas, all objections will be included in the minutes, and directing staff to work with
residents regarding location of the light poles.

Mayor Tarver believed Council should adhere to past assurances to the
neighborhood made by other Councils. He encouraged Ms. Michelotti to see the lights
and talk with the neighbors before making a decision to approve the lights.

Ms. Michelotti indicated she would support the motion, but would look at the
lights and if she finds it is not what she expected, she would ask for reconsideration of the
motion at the next Council meeting.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis and Michelotti
NOES: Mayor Tarver
ABSENT: Councilmember Pico
ABSTAIN: None

Pleasanton City Council 16
Minutes

01/18/00
