believed more monitoring of the park will be necessary. She also was concerned about
an increase in the noise level.

Stan Callon, 2868 Longspur Way, referred to discussions regarding the Vat Vista
Park and the demands of the residents. The Commission did not object m any of the
demands and he felt the homeowners assumed their demands would be approved. He
related incidents in the area from the 1970's to now. He indicated that former Mayor
Ken Mercer had told him there would never be lights in the Sports Park. He asked where
is the continuity between Councils. He also referred to an ordinance that said the park
was closed at dusk, now Council is saying the park is open as long as the lights are on.
He expressed confusion about the proposed lights. He did not want lights on in the
moming. He referred to comments that the park would be safer with lights and stated
there is no problem now. He suggested using nine-foot poles instead of the suggested
twelve-foot poles. He asked if he would be consulted on the location of any light pole
near his yard, so he could take advantage of the trees in his yard to shield the light. He
did not want lights on until 11:00 p.m. He felt 10:00 p.m. was late enough and again said
he did not want the lights on in moming hours.

Mr. Wolfe said staff would work with Mr. Callon regarding location of the poles
and said the lights are set to go off at 9:30 p.m. on the south side.

Joy Reynolds, 2642 Sanderling Way, indicated she lives at the unlighted end of
the park. In response to a question about the softball lights, she said they go off from
10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. She said she feels safer walking her dog with no lights. She
wanted to be certain all objections from the previous three meetings as well as the
demonstration be incorporated in the minutes in case anyone wants to bring it up later in
a lawsuit. She also said she was speaking on behalf of Larry Murphy.

There were no further speakers.

Ms. Ayala referred to the morning hours and asked if there were a lot of joggers at
5:30 a.m.

Mr. Wolfesaid yes.

Ms. Ayala asked if there were shields on all the lights.

Mr. Fulford said not currently, but they could be added.

Ms. Ayala asked for clarification on the comments about trees that were promised
in cermin areas.

Mr. Wolfe said there are some issues to be addressed, and staff supports
installation of additional trees.

Pleasanton City Council 13 01/18/00
Minutes
