Chris Miller, 663 Romeo Court, indicated he still had concerns about completion of the construction on Sunol Boulevard. He also inquired when Sunol would be widened to four lanes from the freeway to Bernal Avenue. Mr. Lum indicated staff has been working with the developer to expedite the construction. Staff is also working to provide safer passage for pedestrians on the east side of the street. With regard to widening Sunol, a big portion will be done in conjunction with development of the Kaiser property. Item 4f Appointment of Vice Mayor and appointment of Couneilmembers to various regional and local boards, commissions~ and committees. (SR 99:352) Mayor Tarver indicated that because of his job he will have less time to perform mayoral duties and hoped that the Vice Mayor will assume more responsibilities. He also indicated that after the first of the year, he would be moving Ms. Michelotti onto the School Liaison Committee in his place. Ms. Dennis inquired about the rotation policy for vice mayor. Ms. Acosta said there is no adopted policy and indicated who the prior vice mayors have been. It was moved by Ms. Dennis to appoint Sharrell Michelotti as Vice Mayor. The motion died for lack of a second. It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to ratify the Mayor's appointments to regional authorities, boards, commissions, committees and internal Council committees. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to appoint Tom Pico as Vice Mayor for the year 2000. Ms. Ayala didn't think using a rotation was the right way to appoint a vice mayor. She asked why a Councilmember would like to be vice mayor for 2000. Ms. Michelotti indicated she felt it was her turn to serve as vice mayor and she had the time available to take on the additional duties for the mayor when necessary.
