It was moved by Ms. Ayala, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to continue any
decision on the project until January 18, 2000.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Ayala, Dennis and Mayor Tarvet
NOES: Councilmember Michclotti
ABSENT: Councilmember Pico
ABSTAIN: None

Item 6f
Discussion of Community Outreach for Exnloration of Public Uses of the San
Francisco Bernal Avenue oronertv. (SR 99:330)

Mayor Tarver requested staff to add this to the agenda because of the need to
move forward as quickly as possible. To be successful, he felt it should be a large
committee made up of Councilmembers, School Board members, representatives of the
Chamber, Tri-Valley Business Council, sports groups, childcare providers, Pleasanton
Downtown Association, Zone 7. Castlewood Country Club, ACE Advisory Board,
Alameda County, churches, cemeteries, and non-profit organizations. He suggested those
groups make their own appointments. It will take too long to go through an advertising
and interview process. Those representatives can share their points of view and make
recommendations on land use. Staff will provide another report on December 7 of all the
Commissions' recommendations that could be referred to the Committee for discussion.

Ms. Michelotti agreed the committee should have broad representation and
anyone who is interested should be welcome to participate in the process.

Mayor Tarver recommended a group of 25:2 Councilmembers, 2 School Board
members, 2 Chamber members. 2 Business Council, 2 sports groups, 2 childcare and
going down the list and suggested that each Councilmember could appoint a citizen at
large.

Ms. Michelotti suggested the Sports Council could select the representatives
because there are more than m-o sports groups in town.

Mayor Tarver clarified he had suggested one member from Zone 7, Castlewood,
and ACE. He felt discussion was necessary on the size, representation, and appointment.

Ms. Dennis asked if a sun'ey could be done to give a statistically valid input from
the community. She felt past sun'eys had been .very accurate and this Committee would
then have that information to consider. That could expedite the outreach process.

Ms. Acosta said staff had discussed another survey at some point, but that would
be in reverse to Ms. Dennis' suggestion. The Committee would first formulate ideas and
then send those suggestions out to see where the greatest support is.

Pleasanton City Council 21 11/09/99
Minutes
