McInnis Re: Point Reyes National Seashore <br />Mr. Fales read the above letter Which informed the Council that the completion <br />of the Point Reyes National Seashore acquisition has received the approval of the <br />House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and that President Nixon has indi- <br />cated, if the necessary authorizing legislation is passed, that funds will be <br />budgeted during 1970, 1971 and 1972 to complete the purchase of this National <br />Seashore. In his letter. Mr. McInnis also thanked the Council for supporting this <br />matter. Mr. Fales requested that he be authorized to follow this matter and if <br />the necessary authorizing legislation is hindered in any way, to automatically <br />bring this back to the Council before Mr. McInnis could inform the Council of the <br />problem. Mr. Fales' request was granted. <br /> <br />~ <br />..... <br />00 <br />'-:> <br />U <br />U <br /> <br />Mr. Fales stated that he had received a communication from Dr. Howard Long, <br />dated November 27. 1969, today regarding a friendly condemnation of street segment <br />of Longview. Tract No. 2892. <br />Mr. Fales read Dr. Long's letter requesting the Council to adopt a resolution <br />finding the necessity of acquiring said property for street purposes and authoriz- <br />ing the City Attorney to proceed to file suit in eminent domain. <br />Mr. Hirst explained that this should be handled by simple dedication between <br />the two property owners involved. and he did not think the City should become in- <br />volved in this private land matter. <br />After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded <br />by Councilman Beratlis that Dr. Long work out his problem and to report back to <br />the Council at next week's meeting. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega. Reid. Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />~TTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />In answer to Councilman Rega's question, Mr. Fales stated that his report <br />regarding Air pollution Problem will, hopefully, be presented to the Council next <br />week. <br /> <br />Councilman Spiliotopoulos reported on the progress the Community Concerns <br />C0mmittee was making. He stated that this meeting was an organizational meeting <br />and they were making good progress. <br /> <br />Councilman Spi1iotopoulos criticized the Press for reporting his conflict of <br />interests and other inuendos regarding his involvement in a proposed home loan <br />bank charter. He invited the members of the Press to meet with him and investigate <br />his financial holdings and then determine his integrity and rights as an indivi- <br />dual. <br /> <br />Councilman Reid asked Mr. Campbell for a report regarding the excessive dust <br />on the Kaiser Private Road, and also of the possibility of re-routing trucks down <br />to Mohr Avenue. He also asked that the Sand and Gravel Committee be advised of <br />this. Councilman Rega stated that he would call Kaiser's tomorrow and inform them <br />of this problem. <br /> <br />Mayor Gerton also reported on the Community Concerns Committee meeting and <br />asked the Council to start thinking about some charges this Committee could under- <br />take. He asked Mr. Fales to place this matter on the agenda for next week's <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Gerton also criticized the Press for taking out of context, his remarks <br />regarding density. <br /> <br />MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br />Mr. James E. McDermott, 5598 Corte Sonora, Mr. F. Weston, 5517 Corte Sonora, <br />and Mr. James Harrison. 5439 Corte Paloma, each objected to the Council's approval <br />of the Preliminary Tentative Map and Tentative Development Plans for the Townhouse <br />concept for Tract No. 3158. <br />Mayor Gerton advised them that a public hearing will be held on this matter <br />and that they should make their protests known at that time. <br /> <br />~~}OURNMENT <br />There being no further business at 10:15 P.M.. it was moved by Councilman <br />Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that the meeting be adjourned <br />to meet again in Regular Session at 8:00 P.M., on December 8, 1969. <br /> <br />4. <br />
