McInnis Re: Point Reyes National Seashore Mr. Fales read the above letter Which informed the Council that the completion of the Point Reyes National Seashore acquisition has received the approval of the House Interior and Insular Affairs Committee and that President Nixon has indi- cated, if the necessary authorizing legislation is passed, that funds will be budgeted during 1970, 1971 and 1972 to complete the purchase of this National Seashore. In his letter. Mr. McInnis also thanked the Council for supporting this matter. Mr. Fales requested that he be authorized to follow this matter and if the necessary authorizing legislation is hindered in any way, to automatically bring this back to the Council before Mr. McInnis could inform the Council of the problem. Mr. Fales' request was granted. ~ ..... 00 '-:> U U Mr. Fales stated that he had received a communication from Dr. Howard Long, dated November 27. 1969, today regarding a friendly condemnation of street segment of Longview. Tract No. 2892. Mr. Fales read Dr. Long's letter requesting the Council to adopt a resolution finding the necessity of acquiring said property for street purposes and authoriz- ing the City Attorney to proceed to file suit in eminent domain. Mr. Hirst explained that this should be handled by simple dedication between the two property owners involved. and he did not think the City should become in- volved in this private land matter. After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that Dr. Long work out his problem and to report back to the Council at next week's meeting. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega. Reid. Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton NOES: None ABSENT: None ~TTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS In answer to Councilman Rega's question, Mr. Fales stated that his report regarding Air pollution Problem will, hopefully, be presented to the Council next week. Councilman Spiliotopoulos reported on the progress the Community Concerns C0mmittee was making. He stated that this meeting was an organizational meeting and they were making good progress. Councilman Spi1iotopoulos criticized the Press for reporting his conflict of interests and other inuendos regarding his involvement in a proposed home loan bank charter. He invited the members of the Press to meet with him and investigate his financial holdings and then determine his integrity and rights as an indivi- dual. Councilman Reid asked Mr. Campbell for a report regarding the excessive dust on the Kaiser Private Road, and also of the possibility of re-routing trucks down to Mohr Avenue. He also asked that the Sand and Gravel Committee be advised of this. Councilman Rega stated that he would call Kaiser's tomorrow and inform them of this problem. Mayor Gerton also reported on the Community Concerns Committee meeting and asked the Council to start thinking about some charges this Committee could under- take. He asked Mr. Fales to place this matter on the agenda for next week's meeting. Mayor Gerton also criticized the Press for taking out of context, his remarks regarding density. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Mr. James E. McDermott, 5598 Corte Sonora, Mr. F. Weston, 5517 Corte Sonora, and Mr. James Harrison. 5439 Corte Paloma, each objected to the Council's approval of the Preliminary Tentative Map and Tentative Development Plans for the Townhouse concept for Tract No. 3158. Mayor Gerton advised them that a public hearing will be held on this matter and that they should make their protests known at that time. ~~}OURNMENT There being no further business at 10:15 P.M.. it was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that the meeting be adjourned to meet again in Regular Session at 8:00 P.M., on December 8, 1969. 4.
