Card Rooms <br /> Mr. Fales read the letter from Mr. Young in which he stated his opposition to <br />the operation of Card Rooms in Pleasanton. <br /> Mayor Gerton stated that in view of the fact that this matter had been <br />thoroughly discussed prior to the recent adoption of the City's Ordinance regu- <br />lating card room operation, that this matter be dropped. <br /> <br />From Dr. Franklin K' ~ardy Re: Water Pollut.ion Contr9~ Meetin~ <br /> Mr. Fales read the above letter which Dr. Agardy expressed appreciation to the <br />City employees who participated in the Annual Conference held at Anaheim in May, <br />1969. <br /> <br />From Mr. William Cunningham Re:..Easter Seal Society Ca ~pai~n <br /> Mr. Fales read the above letter regarding the crit.cism Dr. Toffelmier of the <br />Caster Seal Society has directed to the Management of ~he Colliseum in the matter <br />of making sporting events available to the handicapped Mayor Getton stated that <br />he would reply to Mr. Cunningham. <br /> <br />From Mrs. Jeanne Trudeau Re: Local Problems of V.C.E.O.~ <br /> Mr. Fales read the above letter which initiated Council discussion regarding the <br />inadequate operation of V.C.E.O.O. Mayor Getton, the ~ity's representative to <br />VCEOO, stated he was at a complete loss to make any suggestions to help this <br />organization. Councilmen Beratlis and Spiliotopoulos suggested that the City <br />withdraw support from VCEOO. Councilman Rega stated t~at he had very little <br />exposure to the program but felt that the City should zither give strong support <br />or else withdraw entirely. Mr. Fales stated that some of the provisions of the <br />Green amendment were not entirely clear. He suggested that the Council discuss <br />the entire matter with the City Council of Livermore before making a decision. <br />Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that unless VCEOO has a definite program he <br />would be in favor of dropping any support to them. Mayor Getton cited several <br />instances of lack of qualified personnel. Mr. Fales sympathized with the feeling <br />of the Council but called attention to the fact that t~e CAPE Program was success- <br />ful. <br /> After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and <br />seconded by Councilman Beratlis, that the City of Plea;aaron withdraw their sup- <br />port from VCEOO. <br /> Mr. Fales suggested that before a vote was taken, zhat the Green Amendment <br />be referred to the City Attorney for clarification and that this entire matter <br />be discussed with the Livermore City Council· <br /> The City Council agreed, whereupon Councilman Beratlis withdrew his second <br />to the motion and Councilman Spiliotopoulos withdrew his motion. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos asked Mr. Rirst if he had any additional information <br />on the matter of an elected mayor. Mr. Hirst stated that the report he submitted <br />to the Council was complete. Councilman Spiliotopoulos asked Mr. Fales to sche- <br />dule this matter on a future agenda. <br /> <br /> Councilman Beratlis stated he had personally investigated the applicants re- <br />questing rezoning on the property known as 915 Santa Rita Road and felt that the <br />Planning staff had handled this in a most satisfactory manner and he saw no <br />"diversion" actions on the part of the staff. He stated that both the applicants, <br />Applied Batteries and Valley Tire, were satisfied that their businesses were of <br />"industrial nature" and couldn't possibly be permitted in a Commercial Service <br />District area. <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that he had not ~ccused the Planning staff <br />of "diversion", and he only brought up the matter as a moral obligation to the <br />applicants who had contacted him and complained about the actions of the staff. <br /> Mr. Fales stated that he had investigated this mat.er and had presented his <br />report to the City Council but would be flad to pursue this further by having <br />both the Planning staff and the applicants present to ~lear this issue. The <br />Cou~cil agreed to close the matter. <br /> <br /> Mayor Getton read a letter from the Mayor of the C .ty of Alameda in which <br />he requested adoption of a resolution supporting Alameda's request to urge the <br />~ostmaster General to issue a postage stamp commemorating the 100 year anniversary <br />of the first transcontinental railroad western terminus in Alameda. <br /> The Councilmen did not reply to the City of Alameda's request. <br /> <br /> <br />
