Mana~e.r Re: Pro.posed New Business License Ordinance <br /> Mr. Edgar reviewed the proposed new Business License Ordinance. He also dis- <br />played charts of the new rate schedules and stated that the estimated revenue of <br />the new rates should yield approximately $30,000.00 annually. Mr. Edgar also <br />explained how the charge for a business license would be applied in certain <br />specific cases. <br /> Mr. Edgar stated that, in accordance with the wishes of the City Council, a <br />committee of ten businessmen was formed. He stated that he and this committee <br />had met on a weekly basis over the past few months and have satisfied themselves <br />that the projections of this proposed ordinance are accurate and the concepts are <br />valid. <br /> Mr. Edgar further added that the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce has endorsed <br />this proposed ordinance. <br /> In answer to Councilman Rega's question, Mr. Edgar informed him that under the <br />provisions of this proposed ordinance, certain eleemosynary organizations will be <br />exempt from paying a business license fee. <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos stated that he did not think the maximum on the rate <br />schedule was high enough. <br /> Councilman Reid stated that he felt the key is to do all possible to stabilize <br />the financial posture of the City and yet encourage industrial and commercial <br />development. <br /> After considerable discussion on this matter it was moved by Councilman Rega <br />and seconded by Councilman Reid that Ordinance No. 594, Licensing the Transaction <br />and Carrying on of Certain Businesses, Trades, Professions, Callings of Occupa- <br />tions in the City of Pleasanton for the Purpose of Raising Municipal Revenue and <br />providing a penalty for the violation thereof, be introduced. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Beratlis <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Rega that the <br />reading of Ordinance No. 594, be waived. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Beratlis <br /> <br />Matters for the Information of the Council <br /> Mr. Fales reported that a copy of a letter from Mr. George L. Curtis, President <br />of United Concrete Pipe Corporation, indicating their Company's reaction to the <br />current unofficial moratorium in Livermore, has been forwarded to the Council for <br />their information. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fales also stated that he has forwarded to the Council, a copy of a <br />memorandum from the Director of Public Works, dated March 16, 1970, regarding <br />the current status of the Federally Funded Community Shelter Program. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fales also reported that a copy of a memorandum from the Director of <br />Public Works, dated March 26, 1970, regarding the current status of the work <br />that is being done at the Besco School relating to the alleviation of the stand- <br />ing water problem at the school site. <br /> <br /> <br />
