It was moved by Councilman Beratlis and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> that the reading of Ordinance No. 593, be waived. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSEnt: Councilman Rega <br /> <br /> .... ~.pplication of the Plannin~ Commission..to Consider Genera~l Plan amendments for those <br /> .prOperties_generally. located on the east side of Sunol Blvd., between Interstate <br /> Route 680 and Main Streeti said amendments. to alsO include a review of the location <br /> and acrea.~e presentlY assi~ngd to the ~intage Hills neighborhood shopDi9~' center <br /> Mr. Castro reviewed the report of the Planning Commission, dated March 2, 1970, <br /> in which that Commission made the following recommendations: <br /> 1. That the properties presently located on both sides of Sonoma Drive and east <br /> of Sunol Boulevard be reclassified from the Industrial Park District to the <br /> Commercial Service District. <br /> 2. That those properties where the specific land use terminated with the expira- <br /> tion of the Planned Unit Development in Mission Park be classified at this <br /> time under the Agricultural District. <br />~ 3. That the shopping center as recommended by the General Plan to be located at <br />~f~ the southwest corner of Sycamore Road and Pico Avenue be removed at this time. <br /> <br /> Mr Castro stated that MacKay and ~omps Engineers have requested that the <br /> · <br /> <br /> Vintage Hills Shopping Center be removed from any consideration pending a review <br /> by their staff and himself. Mr. Castro further stated that the Planning Commission <br /> has agreed that he and MacKay and Somps review this matter to determine what direc- <br /> tion and recommendations to make to them at a future date. <br /> Mr. Castro displayed maps of the subject area and pointed out the zoning <br /> changes as recommended by the Planning Commission. <br /> Mayor Gerton declared the public hearing open. <br /> Mr. David Bigger, 301Junipero Street, stated that because there is little or <br /> no Commercial Service Zoning in Pleasanton, he suggested that the Council favorably <br /> consider the Planning Commission's recommendation. He also stated that he felt <br /> that in order to attract a potential major food store tenant, the Neighborhood <br /> Commercial area should not be reduced in size. He pointed out that the areas of <br /> Sunol, Castlewood, the outlying areas of Sycamore and Happy Valley Road, and even <br /> the downtown residents would be attracted to a large shopping center at that <br /> location. <br /> There being no other response from the audience, it was moved by Councilman <br /> Reid and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that the public hearing be closed. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilman Rega <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid gave his reasons for designating the Industrial Park area as <br /> a Study District. <br /> Mayor Getton concurrent with Councilman Reid's remarks. <br /> <br /> After considerable discussion, it was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that <br /> the recommendations of the Planning Commission be accepted. <br /> Councilman Spiliotopoulos' motion died for lack of a second to it. <br /> <br /> After additional discussion, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by <br /> Councilman Beratlis that Resolution No. 70-55, approving the recommendations of <br /> the Planning Commission, GP-70-1, Sunol Boulevard General Plan Amendments, Resolu- <br /> tion No. 988, exception of the reclassification of those properties located on <br /> both sides of Sonoma Drive and east of Sunol Boulevard which are to be rezoned <br /> frem the Industrial Park District to the Study District, be adopted. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Reid and Mayor Getton <br /> NOES: Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> ABSENT: Councilman Rega <br /> <br /> After a recommendation from Mr. Fales, it was moved by Councilman Reid and <br /> seconded ;~y Councilman Beratlis, that the Planning Commission initiate considera~ <br /> tion of the proper methods by which the proper size of neighborhood shopping <br /> centers may be determined. <br /> <br /> <br />
