MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL. .M~,MB~RS Councilman Spiliotopoulos asked that the matter of an elected mayor be placed on the agenda for the meeting of March 2, 1970. Mayor Gerton reported that the Mayors Conference is interested in the Air Pollution Control Program that Pleasanton has adopted and they also want informa- tion regarding liquid petroleum gas. Councilman Spiliotopoulos asked if it wouldn't be aDpropriate to ask the Mayor's Conference to propose another hearing regarding the matter of the dismissal of Deputy Sheriffs at Santa Rita over the "Peoples Park~' incident at Berkeley. Mayor Gerton explained what had happened at the hearing and stated that the Mayor's Conference had adopted a resolution requesting that a new Grand Jury be empaneled to allow all the facts to be heard that werent heard before. It was moved by Councilman Rega and aeconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that the City of Pleasanton reaffirm the resolution adopted by the Mayor's Conference regarding the re-empaneling of a new Grand Jury to allow all the testimony to be heard relating to the Peoples Park incident and the involvement of the Deputy Sheriffs at Santa Rita. EXECUTIVE SESSION: APPOINTMENTS Mayor Gerton recessed the meeting to an Executive Session at 11:35 P.M. M;-yor Gerton reconvened the meeting at 11:58 P.M. It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that Resolution No. 70-28, appointing Mr. John F. Hansen, 1727 Beachwood Way, to a four- year term as a member of the City of Pleasanton Housing Authority Board of Com- missioners, said term to expire on January 25, 1974, be adopted. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Gerton MOilS: None ABSENT: None It was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman Reid that Resolution No. 70-29, re-appointing Mr. William J. Herlihy, 816 Abbie Street, and Dr. Douglas Huntze, 470 Pine Hill Lane, to four-year terms as members of the Recreation and Park Commission, said terms to expire on February 15, 1974, be adopted. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton NOES: None ABSENT: None ADJOURNMENT Th.ar~ being no further business at 12 midnight, it was moved by Councilman Reid and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that the meeting be adjourned to meet again in Adjourned Regular Session at 8:00 P.M., on February 16, 1970, in the Valley View Elementary School, 480 Adams Way, Pleasanton.
