493 <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilman Beratlis asked Councilman Rega if the quote appearing in a local <br />newspaper regarding a recall of some of the Councilmen was correct. Councilman <br />Rega replied that the total context of his statements to the reporter were not <br />truely reflected. Councilman Rega emphasized the fact that he would not take any <br />part in the recall of any Councilmen. <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid read a telegram that he personally sent to Congressmen Edwards <br />and Miller and Senators Murphy and Cranston regarding the veto of President Nixon <br />of the HEW bill and of the serious impact this action has on Pleasanton Educational <br />Program. <br /> It was moved by Mayor Gerton and seconded by Councilman Rega that the City <br />Council endorse Councilman Reid's individual action regarding a message sent to <br />Congressmen Edwards and Miller and Senators Murphy and Cranston, and send a <br />similar telegram from the City Council of Pleasanton asking for restoration of <br />Health, Education and Welfare Funds as pertain to this Valley. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> <br /> Councilman Reid stated that he had received reports from the Citizens meeting <br />that was held on January 27th, that there was a lack of respect shown to public <br />officials and to the Mayor's wife in particular, and felt that mutual respect for <br />each other was imperative. <br /> Mayor Gerton thanked Councilman Reid for his remarks. <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION: APPOINTMENTS <br /> Mayor Gerton recessed the meeting to an Executive Session at 11:15 P.M. <br /> <br /> Mayor Getton reconvened the meeting at 11:35 P.M. <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT <br /> There being no further business at 11:37 P.M., it was moved by Councilman Rega <br />and seconded by Councilman Beratlis that the meeting be adjourned to meet again in <br />Regular Session at 8:00 P.M., on February 9, 1970. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Reid and Mayor Gerton <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Councilman Spiliotopoulos <br /> <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> BERNARD T.
