44: <br /> <br /> Report of the..Recreatiop and P~rk ,.qommissioq ~e: citation .for leadership, guidance <br /> in establishment of a Soccer. football program for youth <br /> Councilman Rega stated that the Recreation and Parks Commission has requested <br /> that the City Council cite Gary Patton for his leadership and guidance in estab- <br /> lishing the Soccer football program for youth. <br /> It was moved by Councilman Rega and seconded by Councilman Spiliotopoulos that <br /> Resolution No. 70-11, commending Gary Patton, Director of Recreation and Parks, for <br />.... his leadership and guidance in establishing the Soccer football program. <br /> The roll call vot.e was ~s..follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Rega, Spiliotopoulos and Mayor Getton <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilman Reid <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary Patton thanked the City Council for the commendation. <br /> <br /> ~.port of the Recreation and..Pa~.k .~ommission Re: Recommended resolution encouragin_~ <br /> East Bay Regional Park District to commence plannin~ and.negotiation processes in <br /> order to implement an ~nter-city bicycle. ~ra~ system in eastern Alameda and Contra <br /> Costa Counties <br /> After some discussion on this matter it was decided to study this inter-city <br /> bicycle trail system further. <br /> Mr. Fales was directed to place this matter on the agenda for January 19, 1970. <br /> <br /> Report of the Recreation and Park Commission Re: Recommended Name for Park tempor~rZ. <br /> ily known as Fairlands Park <br /> Mr. Fales read the report from the Recreation and Park Commission which recom- <br /> mended that the Park temporarily named "Fairlands Park" be permanently named <br /> "Moccasin Trail Neighborhood Park". <br /> Councilman Beratlis initiated discussion regarding this proposed name. <br /> Mayor Getton requested that this matter be referred back to the Recreation <br /> and Park Commission for consideration of a more meaningful name for the Park. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER <br /> Results of City Council Stud~ Session Re: SmoR; Jan.. 8~ !970 <br /> Mr. Fales recommended that this report be discussed at the meeting of January <br /> 19, 1970. <br /> <br /> Matters for the Information of the Council <br /> Mr. Fales announced that he has forwarded a copy of the proposed League of <br /> California Cities Policy Statement regarding Tax Reform and the Cities. Mr. Fales <br /> indicated that the proposed statement has not been approved by the League Board of <br /> Directors as yet, but recommended that the City endorse this statement. <br /> Mayor Getton suggested that this matter be continued when all members of the <br /> Council were present. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fales stated that he has forwarded a copy of the Lea~e of Cities Committee <br /> on Urban Environmental Quality. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br /> There were no reports of the City Attorney scheduled for this meeting. <br /> <br /> COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Mr. Fales stated he has received a letter from Mrs. John G. Rogers, 4623 <br /> Turnstone Drive, dated January 7, 1970, regarding the removal of the "Pleasanton" <br /> sign on Main Street. <br /> Mr. Fales was instructed to refer this letter to the Central Business District <br /> for consideration. <br /> <br /> MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br /> Councilman Beratlis asked Mr. Fales if a report on CS Zoning in the City of <br /> Pleasantonwill be presented in the near future. Mr. Fales replied that this <br /> report will be ready soon. <br /> <br /> Councilman Rega recommended that a Citizens Committee for General Plan Review <br /> be established. <br /> Mayor Gerton suggested that this matter be placed on a future agenda. <br /> <br /> <br />
