Mr. Aiello further reported that after much discussion by the <br /> ing Commission, they reaffirmed their original position to retain the <br /> RM-2500 for 10.65 acreS, the Office District for 1.0 acres and the <br /> Neighborhood Commercial on the remaining 5.8 acres. <br /> <br /> Councilman Pearson suggested that the Planning Cormmission meet with <br /> the City Council to discuss this matter but the other members of <br /> the Council disagreed with his suggestion. <br /> <br /> Mr. Aiello stated that he felt the City could exercise more control <br /> over the RM-2500 zoning than it could over the RM-4000. <br /> <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the opponents of the Foothill Road zoning <br /> initiating a referendu~ on~l'~s~i!ssue~' Mayor Reid stated that he <br /> did not think the City Council should allow the threat of a referen- <br /> dum to'influence its judgement but it should have full cognizance <br /> of its action. Mr. ttirst explained the proceedure involved in a <br /> re fe ren dum. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Beratlis <br /> that Ordinance No. 627, amending Ordinance No. 520, to zone the area <br /> located generally southeast of the intersection of Bernal Avenue and <br /> Foothill Road, as follows: 5.8 acres to the Neighborhood Commercial <br /> District; 1.0 acres to the Office District; and, 10.65 acres to the <br /> Rm-4000 Multiple District, be introduced. <br /> <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br /> AYES: Councilmen Beratlis, Gerton and Spiliotopoulos <br /> NOES: Councilman and Mayor Reid <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Approval for Temporar~ Location of Library on Portion of Amador <br /> .~alle~ Community Park <br /> <br />Mr. Fales displayed a drawing of the proposed temporary location of <br />the Library. tie stated that it was previously recommended by the <br />Recreation and Parks Commissionthat the best interim location for <br />the library, in view of the fact that the lease on the Abbie Street <br />site has expired, would be a portion of Amador Valley Community Park, <br />provided necessary Federal approval was obtained. Mr. Fales informed <br />the I Council that the City has now received formal permission from HUD <br />regarding this matter and therefore recommends approval for temp- <br />orary use of this site. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding the paving of the parking lot adjacent <br />to the proposed building site. Mr. Fales emphasized the fact that <br />the City of Pleasanton will not pay for this paving. <br /> <br />Ms o Barbara Boyd, Alameda Countl; Librarian, explained the need of <br />a site in order to provide continuing library service to Pleasanton~ <br />She expressed concern over the paving of the parking lot because <br />she felt that the Library District was unable to provide funds for <br />this project. <br /> <br />It was moved by Councilman Spiliotopoulos and seconded by Councilman <br />Beratlis that the temporary location of the Library on a portion <br />of Areadot Valley Community Park, be approved. <br /> <br />A substitute motion was made by Mayor Reid and seconded by Councilman <br />Beratlis that the temporary location to a portion of Amador Valley <br />Community Park under the terms and conditions set forth by HUD be <br />approved with the following condition: That the City of Pleasanton <br />will not be responsible for the installationof the necessary parking <br />lot and driveway to be associated with the temporary location of the <br /> <br /> 2. 4-19-71 <br /> <br /> <br />
