Mr, John Ames, 2539 Willowren Way, suggested that citizens in that area volunteer their time in helping to eliminate this traffic problem. Considerable discussion ensued regarding the spped limit on Valley Avenue{ enforcement of the speed by radar controlled equipment and Safety education for the children. The City Co~u%cil requested that the Public Works Department immediately uommenee a study with regard to the reduction of the speed limit on Valley Avenue for its full length, on Hopyard Road for its full length, and on santa Rita Road for its full length, to 25 miles per hour. The DirectOr of Public WOrks was requested to review the location of the existing 30 miles per hour speed limit sign which is located on Santa Rita Road north of Valley Avenue in order to ascertain whether or not this sign should be moved further north. The chief of Police was requested to meet with Judge Gale in order to dise.~ss with him in more detail his suggestion regarding the increasing of f~'n~s 'for moving violations alsong Valley Avenue in the subject area. It was moved by Councilman Gerton and seconded by Councilman Pearson that ResOlution No. 71-80, be adopted, inStrUcting the City Staff as fo~ 1 ows ~ 1, Th~ PUblic Works Department is to add "Radar Control" signs to t~e e~isting signing in both directions on Valley Avenue in advance Of the school crosswalk for the Harvest Park School and also implement other suggestions made for device changes in this area as outlined in the repo=t of the City Manager, dated April 5, 1971. 2. The Chief of Police is to conduct an intensive traffic program on Valley Avenue, particulary in the vacinity of Harvest Park School, until such time as the City's recommended Federal Grant Application ~or traffic safety has been approved for submittal.
