PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> <br />Appeal of Mr. amd Mrs. John Gas away. from a favorable decision of the <br />P!annin~ Commission regarding the issuance of a Conditional Use Permit <br />for the construction of the Humble Service Station on the southeast <br />corner of Valley Avenue and IIopyard Road <br /> <br />Mayor Reid declared the public hearing open and asked for a staff report. <br /> <br />Mr. Edgar reviewed the report of the Director of Community Development, <br />dated June 8, 1972, in which the background of this application was <br />summarized. <br /> <br />Mrs. John Gasaway stated her objections to the construction and opera- <br />tion of this service station and emphasized the fact that there currently <br />are four stations within 1 and 1/2 miles on Hopyard Road. Mrs. Gasaway <br />requested that the City Council hold the Humble Oil Conditional Use <br />Permit in abeyance for a while. <br /> <br />Mr. Nick Martinson, 4038 Payne Avenue, objected to this application and <br />cited Mission Boulevard in Hayward as an example of what Hopyard Road <br />will be like if Service Stations are continued to be built in this <br />specific area. <br /> <br />Mr. Norman Baumgartner, 6340 Alvard Way, also stated his objections to <br />this service station. <br /> <br />Mr. Joe Schwab, representing Humble Oil Co., stated that 'there-is a need <br />for this station now and felt that there was a great deal of emotionalism <br />displayed by the people in that vacinity over service stations~ ..... <br /> <br />There being no further comments from the public, it was moved by Council- <br />man Kinney and seconded by Councilman Heriihy that the public hearing <br />be closed. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen tterlihy, Kinney, Mori, Pearson and Mayor Reid <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />After considerable discussion on this matter, it was moved by Councilman <br />Kinney and seconded by Councilman Mori that the appeal of Mr. and Mrs. <br />John Gas away from a favorable decision of the Planning Commission re- <br />garding the issuance of a Conditional Use Permit for the construction <br />of a Humble Oil Service Station at the southeast corner of Valley Avenue <br />and Hopyard Road, be denied. <br /> <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Mori and Mayor Reid <br />NOES: Councilman Pearson <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />Considerable discussion ensued regarding the matter of impact of <br />service stations on the entire community. <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance which .would prohibit the operation of certain <br />vehicles in excess pf certain weights upon certain of the streets with- <br />in the City of Pleasanton <br /> <br />Mayor Reid declared the public hearing open and asked for a staff report. <br /> <br /> 2. 6-12-72 <br /> <br /> <br />
