MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION <br /> <br /> There were no matters continued for decision. <br /> <br /> SPECIAL REPORTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Don McKee, Chairman of the Industrial Committee of the Chamber of <br /> Commerce, congradulated the ne=.v Council Members and expressed his pleas- <br /> ure in working with them. lie also presented an unsolicited statement <br /> that was fonvarded to the Industrial Con~ittee that was signed by <br /> Reynold C. Johnson, ttarper Row, Kaiser Sand and Gravel and Scholastic <br /> Magazines which indicated their interest in not holding back the growth <br /> policy of the valley~ <br /> <br /> Mr. John Edmonds, representing the Industrial Committee, stated that <br /> the regular format of the City-Chamber-Fair reception held after the <br /> Fair Parade was going to be some,~vhat chaned to a V.I.P. Reception to be <br /> held on "Pleasanton Day" at the Fair. He stated that this would allow <br /> the Chamber to revise the guest list to include people who are specific- <br /> ally interested in commercial and industrial development in Pleasanton. <br /> He further stated that the Chamber has prepared 500 revised industrial <br /> brochures for prospective industrialist which they can't mail out until <br /> they know the details of the se~er allocations. <br /> <br /> Councilman Kinney thanked Mr~ Edmonds and the Chamber for their efforts <br /> and felt that the Council should respond by aiding the Chamber. <br /> <br /> REPORTS OF BOARDS AND CO~IMISSIONS <br /> <br /> Report of the Plannin~ Commission Re: Urban Park Program P01ic~ <br /> <br />Mr. Gasfro reviewed his report on the Urban Park Policy, dated April 18, <br />1972, which included the following reasons for the Planning Con~,ission <br />adopting their Resolution No. 1170, which denied the Parks and Recrea- <br />tion Resolution No. 72-1, regarding Motorized Bikes and Horses: <br /> <br /> 1. It is still a questionable land use item as to whether or not <br /> these types of activities should be allowed on this specific <br /> site as dust, noise, proximity to other residential areas and <br /> safety standards that may be associated with motorized bikes <br /> can be determined. <br /> <br /> 2. Existing street improvements leading to the park itself are <br /> insufficient to accomodate any safety standards for the protect- <br /> ion of children and/or adults using those rights-of-way. <br /> <br />Mr. Castro recommended, based on the above findings, that the City <br />,Council also deny the Parks and Recreation Resolution No. 72-1, and <br />further recommended that the City Council consider adopting an ordinance <br />prohibiting n~otorized vehicles in all city parks and that a signing <br />program for directing equestrian trails be reviewed. <br /> <br />Mr. Patton, Director of Parks and Recreation, emphasized the need of one <br />comphrehensive ordinance that ~,;ould include' control of the behavious of <br />persons using mini-bikes in the parks. He also informed the Council <br />that the Police Department was currently negotiating with the gravel <br />companies for mini-bike trails. <br /> <br />Councilman Mori stated that he felt that the use of any trail in the <br />PCA area is too far and to unsafe for children to have to "walk" their <br />bikes along Stanley Boulevard. <br /> <br />After some discussion on tj~e control of mini-bikes in the parks, it was <br />moved by Mayor Reid and seconded by Councilman tlerlihy that the staff <br /> <br /> 2 ~ 5-1-72 <br /> <br /> <br />
