He pre-
sented a Petition that was being sent to the State of California to deny State
funds for the purchase of property and construction of an intermediate school
on any site west of Foothill Road in the City of Pleasanton or County property
in this immediate area° The Petition was signed by 1134 residents in the area.
Mr. Peel stated the main reason for opposition was traffic danger to the lives
of children, and he urged City Council influence and support to prevent this
structure from being built on the present proposed site.

Mr~ Joseph Comerford, 7886 Oak Creek Drive, stated the residents in the
immediate area were violently opposed to the location selected by the Trustees
of the Murray School District for the following reasons:

1. Any site selected west of Foothill road would constitute an isolated site
from the general attendance population of the district~ There are virtually
no students residing in this area west of Foothill road.

2. There is extreme danger involving crossing Foothill road to this proposed
attendance area° Foothill road is a rural road which winds and twists
making visibility extremely limited by motorists. The area presently has
a maximum speed limit of Fifty miles per hour which is frequently exceeded
by those motorists traveling the road.

3. Installation of a possible caged concrete overpass on Foothill road for
crossing is not felt to remedy the traffic safety problems. It would be
inconvenient to most students to utilize a crossing of this type and lack
of sidewalks on a rural country road would also add to the danger of foot
traffic° Inconvenience would cause crossing in dangerous areas.

4~ Ecologically, caged concrete overpasses would significantly destroy the
beauty of this rural country road which is one of the few natural beauties
of the area.

5. Earthquake faults are reported to be numerous on the west side of Foothill
road. Extensive testing would be required which would be very costly on
this site.

5. 1/29/73
