60 Over twice the land space for a normal intermediate school would be required
for a hillside location west of Foothill road, This would also involve
additional building costs and extensive ground maintenance cost on a roughly
38 acre school site.

7. There are no funds available for proper landscaping of any school in our
district let alone a 38 acre site~ The burden for landscaping would fall
to the parents of youngsters attending school or would be left as some of
our other present sites are, without ground improvementso

8. Estimated costs for a site west of Foothill road are in excess of $600,000.00
over and above the costs for the present site under condemnation. Also, the
present site under condemnation is a double site suitable for an Intermediate
and Elementary school combined while the Foothill site would be useable for
an Intermediate site only. These increased costs are due to special grading,
required water tank, overpass, retaining walls, etc., that are required on a
hillside location~

Mr. Ron Aguirre, 4531 Sierrawood Lane, and member of the Board of Trustees
for the Murray School District, spoke regarding possible rezoning of the proposed
Stoneridge Shopping Center in order to allow the Intermediate school to be built
on its original proposed site. :-

Mrs° Lilly Ault, 4848 Treewood Court, expressed concern at the lack of being
able to communicate with the Trustees of the Murray School District regarding
the feelings of the residents regarding the proposed school site, and the im-
pression that the City Council was unconcerned about the matter.

The City Council assured Mrs. Ault, and all the members of the audience,
that they were indeed very interested and concerned regarding this matter, but
that this presentation should be taken up with the Murray School Board as well
as the State, and with regard to City influence, no action would be taken at
this time.

Mr. Jack Bullock, 5296 Golden Road, President of the Pleasanton Park Villas
Homeowners Association, addressed the Council regarding his communication to
them about problems in the area related to private streets.

The Council requested this matter be placed on the agenda for February 20,
1973, and instructed the staff to prepare a report regarding this situation.

PUBLIC HEARINGS (Contd.)
Appeal of Fllice-Vernazza Distrlbutorss Inc.s from an adverse decision of the
Design Review Committee in denyin~ appl.icat. ion fo.r .sign wordin~ chan~e f.rom the
previous "76 Gasoline" to indicate "Shell Gasoline - 33-9/10"~ at the Robo Car
Wash establishment at 915 Santa Rita Road
Mayor Reid declared the public hearing open.

Mr. Castro presented the staff report regarding this matter, stating the
Planning Commission recommended denial of this appeal because it was not in
accordance with the original signing program approved for the development.

Mro Ben Vernazza, new owner of the establishment at 915 Santa Rita Road,
stated the marketing policy of the station was being changed from basically
a car wash, to mainly a gasoline service station, thus the request for the
sign wording change, in order that the public might be informed.

It was moved by Councilman Herlihy, and seconded by Councilman Kinney, that
the public hearing be closed.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Mori, Pearson, and Mayor Reid
NOES: None
ABSENT: None

6. 1/29/73
