MINUTES of THE MEETING of THE CITY COUNCIL September 12, 1973 CALL TO ORDER - PLEDGE TO THE FLAG Mayor Robert Pearson called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 8:00 P~M., and then led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. ROLL CALL Deputy City Clerk Doris George called the roll which is recorded as follows: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, Reid, and Mayor Pearson were present. Councilman Mori was absent° Mr~ Edgar, City Manager, Mr~ Schetdig, City Attorney, Mr. Campbeli~, Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Works, Mr. Harris, Senior Planner, and Mr. Walker, Assistant to the City Manager, were present. AGENDA AMENDMENTS Mr. Edgar stated that Jack Bras had requested that Item 6a - Application of the Planning Commission regarding Preliminary P.U.D. Development Plan for Valley Realty, be deferred until later in the meeting when he could be in attendance~ CONSENT CALENDAR It was moved by Councilman Reid, and seconded by Councilman Herlihy, that the following items listed on the Consent Calendar, be approved: a~ Approval of City Council Minutes for August 27, 1973. b. Adoption of Ordinance No. 707, amending Article 5 (R-1 One Family Residential Districts); Article 6 (RMMulti-Family Residential Districts), Chapter 2 (Zon- ing), Title II (Zoning and Development) of the Ordinance Code of the City of Pleasanton relating to Prohibited Uses. c, Adoption of Ordinance No. 708, amending Sections 2-5.35 and 2-5.37, A~ticle 3, Chapter 2, Title II of the Ordinance Code of the City of Pleasanton to require a minimum 23 ft. front setback for single family residences and a minimum 20 fro front setback for multiple residences. d. Proclaim Sept. 24-30, 1973, as United Bay Area Crusade Week. e. Proclaim Sept° 24-30, 1973, as California Traffic Safety Week. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmen Herlihy, Kinney, (Mori)*~ Reid, and Mayor Pearson NOES: None ABSENT: *Councilman Mori was late but indicated his concurrence with the Consent Calendar PUBLIC HEARINGS There were no public hearings scheduled for this meeting. MATTERS CONTINUED FOR DECISION Application of the Planning. Commission to amend Section 2-5.41~ .Chapter 2~ Title II of the Ordinance Code of the city. of Pleasanton relating to structural projections into the side yards Mz~ Edgar stated this matter had been continued from the meeting of August 27, 1973, at which time the public hearing was declared open. Mr. Harris presented the staff report regarding this matter, stating that this ordinance amendment came about because of the large number of variance applications which the staff was processing through the Board of Adjustment, regarding patio covers in minimum rear and side yards, and requesting that these be allowed to ex- tend to within 5 ft. of a rear yard if open on three sides. Mr. Harris also pre- sented a sketch showing situations where adjacent lots were of different elevations.
