MIb~TES <br /> of <br /> THE MEETING <br /> of <br /> TIlE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> December 21, 1978 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> l~ayor Kenneth Mercer called the Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council <br />to order at 5:00 P.M. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> Deputy City Clerk Doris George called the roll which is recorded as follows: <br />Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Kephart, Wood, and Mayor Mercer were present. <br />Mr. Brown, City Manager, .~Ir. Levine, City Attorney, and Mr. Walker, Assistant <br />to the City Manager, ~ere present. <br /> <br />CONSIDER GARBAGE RATE INCREASE <br /> Mayor lfercar stated that the Council Garbage Committee, consisting of himself <br />sad Counci!~aember Brandes, and staff had met with representatives of the Pleasan- <br />ton Garbage Service in nine previous meetings recently regarding a garbage rate <br />increase. Mayor Mercer presented the report of the Garbage Committee dated <br />December 9~ 1978, relative to this matter <br /> <br /> Mr. William Hirst, Attorney representing the Pleasanton Garbage Service, <br />stated his client was not completely happy with the reconunendations contained <br />in the report but after taking all things into consideration respectfully re- <br />quested Council to approve the recommendations as presented by the Council <br />Garbage Cormmittee. <br /> <br /> Mr. Oliver Anjo, 2403 Raven Road, spoke in opposition to the garbage rate <br />increase, stating he felt it was ex. cessive and not in line with the President's <br />anti-inflation guidelines. <br /> <br /> Councilm~ber Brandes stated he felt that senior citizens rates should not <br />be affected by this increase but should remain at the present rate. <br /> <br /> Mr. Oliver Anjo objected to the different charges for various size cans <br />picked up by the Garbage Company. <br /> <br /> Mayor I.[ercer stated that when a person dumps garbage at the Transfer Station <br />he will be required to show his driver's license as proof of residency, as <br />Pleasanton residents are charged a lower rate than those from ont of to~rn. <br /> <br /> In answer to Councilmember Wood's recent suggestion that a customer receive <br />credit for papers, cans, and glass bundled for recycling, Mayor Mercer explained <br />this matter was too complex to be included in these negotiations but that the <br />Pleasanton Garbage Service would be taking it into consideration and recommenda- <br />tion at a future time. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hirst stated that the Garbage Company did take recycable materials at <br />the Transfer Station and that several clubs and organizations sponsored dump <br />bins. <br /> <br /> <br />
