281 Introduction of Ordinance, Re: 1976 Uniform Fire Code and setting a public hearing on October 24~ 1978 Mr. Klenk presented his report dated October 5, 1978, regarding this matter. Councilmember Brandes requested that Council consider requiring smoke detec- tion devices installed in houses at time of resale as is required on new con- struction. Mr. Bro~fa advised that the two contractors for the Interceptor Sewer Line, and Kennedy Engineers, would be setting up trailers on the new Bernal Extension site to use as offices during construction of the sewer line. Mr. Brow-a advised that he had received a letter from Robert Philcox indi- cating interest of six downtown merchants in a public parking lot. Mr. Brown stated he would be meeting with this group to explain the assessment district process. REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY LeaSue of California Cities Cases Mr. Levine presented an oral report regarding request from the League of California Cities to join them and other cities as amicus curiae, at no cost o the City, in the cases of Social and Labor Party vs. City of Glendale, Ducey vs. Argo Sales and the State of California, and the Berkeley Bottle Ordinance case. After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember ~tler, to support the League of California Cities, in Amicus Curiae Brief in the Social and Labor Party vs. City of Glendale case.
