Mayor Mercer requested that letters of commendation be sent to Dan Diaz and <br />Dolores Bengston, in the Recreation Department, and to ~ureen Stockinger in the <br />Duplicating Department, for their outstanding efforts in the processing of the <br />Park and Recreation Brochure. Council concurred. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that Councilmembers and staff had received numerous <br />phone calls regarding the turning off of street lights and the hazardous con- <br />ditions caused by this situation. After discussion, it was moved by Mayor Mercer, <br />and seconded by Councilmember Brandes, that Resolution No. 78-217, instructing <br />staff to have PG&E turn on one light in Courts that originally had two lights <br />and at other places that have unique situations, and amending the Budget by <br />approximately $7,000.00 to cover this expenditure, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Brandes, Butler, and ~.~ayor Mercer <br />NOES:., None <br />ABSF~NT: Councilmen Kephart and Wood <br /> <br /> ~yor Mercer asked if the City could be the billing agent for street lights <br />that were requested to be turned back on. Mr. Brown advised that this was <br />administratively almost impossible. <br /> <br /> ~yor Mercer requested the City Manager to present information regarding <br />crossing guards. Mr. Brown advised that in the recently adopted budget that <br />four out of seven crossing guards had been eliminated due to budget cuts. <br />stated there would be crossing guards at Santa Rita Road and West Las Positas; <br />First and Abbie Streets; and Valley Avenue for Harvest Park School. He further <br />stated that crossing guards would be eliminated at Main and Abbie Streets; <br />Vineyard Avenue and Ad~ ~,~n.y; F~-~r ~^~.~.~,~= ~i^~.~ ~'~ .... ~ D~^,- ^ <br /> <br />Administrators and offered their services to train and equip volunteers for this <br />service but the response had not been favorable. Mr. Brown also stated that <br />before school starts the City will study the school crossings where guards have <br />been e!liminated and install additional signing and street markings to aid in <br />identifying each school crossing. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer requested that a letter of commendation be sent to Jack Noonan, <br />Attorney representing Police Officers Bill Yates and Fred Crabtree, thanking him <br />for his services in the successful conclusion of a law suit against these employees. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Councilmember Butler reported on a LAVW~ meeting and a meeting of the Alameda <br />County Library Committee in which it was reported that it is anticipated the hours <br />to be open at the Pleasanton Library will be expanded. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer reported on the Park and Recreation Commission meeting and re- <br />quested the City Manager to present a status report on grants. Mr. Brown advised <br />that a Park Grant under SB-174 is on file with the State for improvements to 12 <br />acres of the Youth Sports Park, and that a grant application under the Land and <br />Conservation Program will be filed on September 15, 1978, with the State for <br />additional improvements to the Youth Sports Park. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that he had received a request for a meeting between City <br />Council, Housing Authority Board, and the Housing Authority Tenants Association. <br />tte stated he had requested a letter from the Chairperson of the Housing Authority <br /> <br /> 3. 8/29/78 <br /> <br /> <br />
