Mayor Mercer stated he felt Council salaries should be reduced. Council- <br />member Brandes expressed strong opposition, stating that Pleasanton City Council <br />was one of the lowest paid Councils and that he felt they were underpaid. <br /> <br /> It was moved byMayor Mercer to lower City Council salaries from $150.00 to <br />$100.00 per month. <br /> <br /> The motion died for lack of a second. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Wood stated he would second Mayor Mercer's-~motion if Mayor <br />Mercer would amend it to lower administrative salaries by 7-1/2%. Mayor Mercer <br />did not amend his motion. <br /> <br /> After further discussion regarding expenses, it was moved by Councilmember <br />Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember Kephart, that Councilmembers be reimbursed <br />for telephone calls made to citizens in the community regarding Council business <br />from Councilmembers place of business during the day. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmen Brandes, Butler, Kephart, and Wood <br />NOES: Mayor Mercer <br />ABS~: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated he wanted an itemized list of the calls submitted for <br />payment, showing to whom the calls were made, where, and for what reason. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brown reported on various City building for possible use for meetings of <br />the Council and Commissions. He stated that none were suitable and he requested <br />Council to consider retaining the lease on the Council Chambers Building. Mayor <br />Mercer requested that the feasibility of using a school be investigated. Council- <br />member Butler inquired about the use of the Veterans' Building and was advised <br />t~hat the Veterans organizations have first choice of use of the building. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer recessed the meeting at 9:20 P.M. <br /> <br /> }~yor Mercer reconvened the meeting at 9:25 P.M. <br /> <br /> Council discussion ensued regarding crossing guards - the number retained and <br />at what schools, using volunteers for this service, the school's responsibility <br />in this matter, PTA involvement, and meeting with school boards and officials to <br />discuss solutions to this matter. <br /> <br /> Council discussed the fee schedule of the school district. Councilmember <br />Brandes suggested that members of the Council meet with the school board to <br />discuss this matter further. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brown corrected the Sewer Utility portion of the Budget to reflect a <br />total reduction of three Laborers instead of four. <br /> <br /> Mr. Ed Alves, 1114 Santa Rita Road, spoke regarding the percentage of <br />management personnel being laid off in comparison to the percentage of non- <br />management personnel laid off. <br /> <br /> 7. 7/11/78 <br /> <br /> <br />
