MINUTES <br /> of <br /> TIlE MEETING <br /> of <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> June 5, 1979 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER ~ <br /> Mayor Frank Brandes, Jr., called the Budget Review Session of the City Council <br />to order at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> The roll call is recorded as follows: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mercer, <br />Wood, and Mayor Brandes were present. Mr. Brown, City Manager, Mr. Campbell, <br />Director of Public Works and Utilities, Mr. McCloud, Water Superintendent, Mr. <br />~.~onaco, Sewage Treatment Plant Superintendent, Mr. Hallock, Parks and Street <br />Superintendent, Mr. Schaumburg, Assistant Civil Engineer, Mr. Harris Director of <br />Planning and Community Development, Mr. Cullum, Chief Building Inspector, Mr. <br />McCloud, Police Chief, Mr. Nelson, Police Captain, Mr. McCollum, Police Sergeant, <br />Mr. Balch, Patrolman, and Mr. Walker, Assistant to the City Manager, were present. <br /> <br />1979-80 CITY OF PLEASANTON BUDGET REVIEW <br /> <br />Planning and Community Development <br /> Mr. Harris briefly described the Planning Division budget and indicated that <br />the planning workload is increasing. He stated that advance planning will focus <br />on the ttousing Element, downto~m survey, and housing survey. He also mentioned <br />that the City has received notification of a HUD 701 grant for $13,750 to work on <br />the Housing Element. He also stated that the downtown study may result in subse- <br />quent general plan amendments to implement the results of the study. ~Ir. Harris <br />stated that the requests for annexation have increased and that each one requires <br />a good deal of work. He added that the Regional Shopping Center and adjacent <br />development will also occur during 1979-80. Mr. Harris stated that PUD applica- <br />tions are also on the increase and the Planning Commission has indicated a desire <br />to review large lot subdivisions. <br /> <br /> After Council questions and discussion, no change was made in the Planning and <br />Community Development budget. Councilmember Mercer requested an informational <br />report regarding additional costs that would be incurred if the Planning Commission <br />had two meetings a month instead of one meeting per month. <br /> <br />Building InspectiOn <br /> Mr. Cullum re-viewed the Building Inspection budget. After brief discussion <br />no changes were made by Council to the Building Inspection budget. <br /> <br />Public Works and Utilities <br /> Mr. Campbell presented the Public Works and Utilities budget and gave compara- <br />tive budget figures with 1977-78. He stated that the level of maintenance provided <br />in 1977-78 and previous years cannot be continued now. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Mayor Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember <br />Mercer, to delete $8,568, from the Public Works and Utilities budget for temporary <br />public works inspector. <br /> <br /> <br />
