What effect will this project have on the value of houses in the area? Mr. <br /> Holley stated he did not feel the slight increase in train traffic would have <br /> any effect on property values. <br /> <br /> Was consideration given to re-routing train tracks around Pleasanton? Mr. <br /> Barton stated this would be too expensive and not feasible. <br /> <br /> Has there been a comprehensive survey conducted to ascertain the opinion of <br /> the affected homeowners? Mr. Holley stated that no survey had been conducted <br /> but that ~ritten comments would be accepted by DeLeuw Cather until January 10, <br /> 1979, and considered in the final Environmental Impact Report. <br /> <br /> Do trains carry any poisonous materials? Mr. Barton stated he did not know <br /> but would check on this matter before the next meeting. <br /> <br /> Could train whistles be eliminated with completion of this project? Mr. Bar- <br /> ton stated that overpasses and underpasses would eliminate train whistles. <br /> <br /> Will overpasses and underpasses aesthetically effect the City of Pleasanton? <br />Mr. Barton stated that the choosing of overpasses and underpasses will have to <br />be carefully considered and engineered to cause the least land change possible. <br /> <br /> Are there any advantages to using the Southern Pacific tracks? Mr. Holley <br />stated the main advantages of using the Southern Pacific tracks is that less <br />residents would be effected, and that there is less traffic crossing the Southern <br />Pacific. <br /> <br /> Mr. Thurman Caudill stated there were rotted railroad ties on-the Western <br />Pacific tracks. Mayor Mercer requested the City ~nager to check into this <br />matter. <br /> <br /> How much increased traffic will occur on the Del Valle Parkway if this pro- <br />ject is constructed? Mr. Holley stated that traffic on the Del Valle Parkway <br />would probably increase to 8,000 vehicles per day. There was considerable <br />audience concern about traffic and pedestrian safety with this projected in- <br />crease. <br /> <br /> How many railroad cars does the winery use during a year? Mr. Barton <br />stated approximately 75 cars per year. Councilmember Wood stated he thought <br />it was approximately 50 cars per year. <br /> <br /> How much commercial land will be opened up if the Southern Pacific tracks <br />are removed? Mr. Holley stated that there would be approximately 4 to 10 acres <br />of usable commercial property available. Mr. Withers, Pleasanton Fire Captain, <br />stated there was a gas pipeline near the Southern Pacific tracks that would <br />have to be taken into consideration in any consolidation or development. <br /> <br /> Various members of the audience voiced opposition to the use of the Western <br />Pacific tracks for the consolidation project and requested Council to proceed <br />very slowly and carefully on this issue, taking all alternatives into considera- <br /> <br /> }~yor Mercer stated that two draft Environmental Impact Reports would be <br />on file in the Library and two at City Hall for review by any interested persons. <br /> <br /> }~yor Mercer requested Mr. Barton to transmit a letter to the City Manager <br />listing the reasons for choosing the Western Pacific railroad tracks for the <br />consolidation project, and the advantages thereof. <br /> <br /> 3. 1/3/79 <br /> <br /> <br />
