Betty Rider, 4393 Mirador Drive, asked if the Council could re-open the
meeting for public input on the water slide. She stated this matter was not listed
on the agenda and she felt it should be discussed at a time when the public could
comment. Ms. Rider stated she felt the traffic peoblems would only be slight and
that the project would be a good activity for the young people of the community.

Mr. Norman Houghton, 4064 Cristobal Way, stated he was amazed that the water
slide issue is being discussed and a position being voted on by Council tonight.
He stated he felt the citizens were not being given adequate opportunity to make
their views known and that other meetings had not been highly publicized. Mr.
Houghton said that enlargement of the Park would mean that more people could enjoy
it. He requested Council to reconsider their decision and wait until after the
public hearing tomorrow night when more information will be presented. He re-
iterated his support for the water slide at Shadow Cliffs Park.

Mr. Houghton suggested that Council look into the possibility of requiring all
gravel trucks to be covered with a tarp to prevent gravel from scattering and
breaking windshields of cars on the road. He presented an item from the Oakland
Tribune dated May 29, 1980, advising that the State of Louisiana had enacted legis-
lation to require gravel loads to be covered. The City Attorney advised he would
research this matter and report back to Council, however, he felt this was probably
out of the realm of the City because trucks from all over the State would have no
way of knowing about the City law. Mayor Mercer instructed the City Attorney to
provide Mr. Houghton with a copy of the report when it is completed.

Mr. Rich Vondell, one of the developers of the water slide, stated the public
hearing meeting tomorrow night is a direct result of a required of this City Council,
to allow as many people as possible to have the opportunity to present their input.
He added it was his feeling that Council would also like to hear that input. He
stated that at this meeting would be the appropriate opportunity for Council to
address whatever concerns they have to the preparers of the Environmental Impact
Report. Mr. Vondell stated he agreed with the previous speakers that it was in-
appropriate for Council to take a stand without hearing the additional public
input, especially since this meeting was requested by them.

Mr. Fred Houston, resident of Pleasanton for 15 years, stated he was in favor
of the water slide at Shadow Cliffs Park for the following reasons: (1) youth will
have a place to go in the immediate area for wholesome, clean recreation; (2) the
facility will be constructed at the expense of the developer, not the taxpayer; (3)
if it fails the Pleasanton taxpayer will not suffer economically; and (4) it will
improve the eyesore that presently exists at this site. Mr. Houston urged Council
not to close their minds to this project.

5. 6/10/80
