<br /> The following persons spoke in favor of the proposed development:
<br />
<br /> Mr. Leon Holiday, Livermore, representing Christesen's Store, stated he felt
<br /> the building should be built as soon as possible.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Lowell Beezley, 3673 Cambridge Court, stated he felt this project is unique
<br /> by design and is the type of development =ha= the downtown area is going to need.
<br /> He stated other projects only have one ingress and egress and this should not be
<br /> held against this particular project.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Bob Graham, 503 San Gabriel, owner of Jeweler's Gallery, stated the proposed
<br /> development would hold business in the downtown area, that it is an on-going busi-
<br /> ness, the developers would be good neighbors, that the project would provide security
<br /> for his business, and it would be an asset to the downtown area because it would be
<br /> service oriented, which would conserve energy since it is centrally located.
<br />
<br /> Mayor Brandes asked if any of the businesses in the immediate area were opposed
<br /> to this proposed development. Mr. Graham stated he did not know of anyone opposed
<br /> to the project.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Henry Rodriquez, 662 Main Street, owner of Pleasanton Foods, stated he had
<br /> no objections to the proposed development.
<br />
<br /> -- Mrs. Kathryn Wolfe, owner and operator of the Family Cleaners, stated she would
<br /> like to keep her business in Pleasanton and urged approval of the proposed develop-
<br /> ment so that she might be able to stay in the downtown area. ~--'
<br />
<br /> No one spoke in opposition to the appeal or negative declaration.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Bras stated the City had always been in favor of upgrading the downtown
<br /> area and that this project would enhance and improve the Main Street area.
<br />
<br /> There being no further testimony, Mayor Brandes declared the public hearing
<br /> closed on the appeal and the negative declaration.
<br />
<br /> It was moved by Councilmember Wood, and seconded by Councilmember Mercer,. that
<br /> Resolution No. 80-55, determining on the basis of a review of initial environmental
<br /> study done for this project, that no significant environmental impact would occur
<br /> as outlined in the City's guidelines and that a Negative Declaration is appropriate
<br /> for design review approval for a retail building to be constructed immediately be-
<br /> hind the existing commercial development located at 614-625 Main Street (Deans Dell
<br /> and Care, Beauty Nook and Jeweler's Gallery), the site is zoned C-C (Central Commer-.j..~-
<br /> cial) District', be adopted.
<br /> The roll call vote was as follows:
<br /> AYES: Councilmen Butler, Kephart, Mercer, Wood, and Mayor Brandes

<br /> Of the Design Review Board, and approvtng the application for design review for a
<br /> retail building to be constructed ~mmediately behind the existing commercial develop-
<br /> ment located at 614-625 Main Street (Deans Dell and Care, Beauty Nook and Jeweler's
<br /> Gallery), the site is zoned C-C (Central Commercial) District, subject to staff re-
