19 <br /> <br />Selection of Police Facility Design <br /> Mr. Walker presented his report (SR 81:152) dated May 7, 1981, regarding this <br />matter, stating the proposed plan will provide 14,141 square feet of floor space <br />including 652 square feet of space required for holding cells. In addition, the <br />plan calls for 2,689 square feet of space for a carport, sally port and evidence <br />storage. The architect's estimated construction cost of the building is $1,150,874. <br />An additional $122,710 is estimated for site work which brings the total estimated <br />cost of the facility to $1,273,584. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Kephart stated that he is satisfied with the proposed plan and <br />staff recommendations. He requested that the report of Mr. Bras be changed; that <br />the word "jail" be stricken and "holding facility" be used imstead. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Kephart, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr, that <br />Resolution No. 81-146, approving Scheme 4A prepared by J. Jack Bras and Associates <br />for floor plan of the proposed Police facility, that the facility be located on the <br />New Bernal Avenue Extension, and that the architect J Jack Bras be instructed to <br />proceed with preparation of architectural plans, be adopted. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />T~lephone System Study: Request for Consultant Services <br /> Mr. Walker presented the report of the Assistant to the City Manager (SR 81:149) <br />dated May 6, 1981, requesting Council to authorize the City staff to interview thTee <br />consulting firms and to employ the firm found to be best qualified to perform a tele- <br />phone system study for the City facilities. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated he was opposed to this request. Councilmembers Kephart and <br />Butler concurred. <br /> <br /> After discussion, Council instructed staff to get options from various telephone <br />system companies, then report back to Council with a recommendation, for final Council <br />decision regarding a new telephone system for City Hall and the proposed police <br />facility. <br /> <br />Matters for the Information of the Council <br />' Mr. Walker ~resented the City Council Agenda Planning Report for May, June, and <br />July. <br /> <br /> Mr. Walker presented the proposed Budget for 1981-82, and requested that Council <br />schedule study sessions to review this document. After discussion, Council scheduled <br />June 1, June 8, and June 22, 7:00 p.m., to study the proposed budget. <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> Mayor Mercer recessed the meeting at 10:15 P.M., to an Executive Session to dis- <br />cuss potential legal problems and pending litigation. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer reconvened the meeting at 10:35 P.M. <br /> <br />REPORTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY <br />Claim of William T.
