MATTERS INITIATED .BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br /> Councilmember Butler asked the status of the improvements to the railroad cros- <br /> sing on Santa Rita Road. Mr. Warnick stated that Western Pacific advised they were <br /> behind in their work schedule but expected to begin work as soon as possible, and <br /> that he would check on this matter again. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that the Amador High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team <br /> and the St. Augustine's C.Y.O. 6th Grade Boys Basketball Team had recently won <br /> championships. He requested that Council commend these two teams for this honor. <br /> It was moved by Mayor Mercer, and seconded Iby Councilmember Wood, that Resolution <br /> No. 81-62, commending the Amador High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team and their <br /> Coach Roger Dabhey, for winning the NCS Championship, and wishing them~sucess in the <br /> TOC, be adopted. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mayor Mercer, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr, that Resolution <br /> No. 81-63, commending the St. Augustine's C.Y.O., 6th Grade Crusaders, and their <br /> Coach Tom Muelebach, for winning the Oakland Diocesan and Northern California Diocesan <br /> Championships on successive weekends, be adopted. <br /> The roll call vot@ was as. follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Kephart, Mohr, Wood, and Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />'ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer advised he had received a letter fromMayor Dale Turner of Livemore, <br /> stating that Supervisor Excell had introduced a successful ~esolution that allows him <br /> to appoint either the Pleasanton or Livemore Police Chief to the Alameda County <br /> Justice Council, and since Pleasanton's Police Chief McCloud is retiring, Mayor <br /> Turner requested that Livemore Police Chief be appointed to this Council. Council- <br /> member Kephart stated he would be happy with the appointment of Livemore Police <br /> Chief Mel Nelson to the Justice Council and felt he would serve in the best interests <br /> of the Valley. Council concurred. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer advised he had received a letter from Mayor Dale Turner of Livemore, <br /> relative to the North Livemore Development and use of privately owned discrete sewer <br /> systems. After discussion, it was moved by Mayor Mercer, and seconded by Council- <br /> member Kephart, that the City of Pleasanton go on record in opposition to the North <br /> Livemore Development and use of privately owned discrete sewage plants. After further <br /> discussion, Mayor Mercer rescinded his motion and Councilmember Kephart withdrew his <br /> second. Mayor Mercer instructed the City Attorney to write the Livemore City Attorney <br /> and the developers to obtain additional information regarding this matter, for further <br /> consideration before taking a position on this ~ssue. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer announced the formation of a new non-profit organization to raise <br /> funds to construct Council Chambers at the Civic Center site. He advised that Judge <br /> William Gale would be Chairman of the Corporation and that he had donated $5,000.00. <br /> He stated the following donations had also been received: DeWitt Wilson - $10,000 <br /> plus architectural fees; Ted Fairfield - $5,000; George Oakes - $10,000; Frank Capella - <br /> plumbing services; and Kaiser Sand and Gravel - all concrete products. Mayor Mercer <br /> and Councilmembers thanked the contributors for their very generous donations, and <br /> requested that a status report be.presented at each Councilmeeting regarding dona- <br /> tions. <br /> <br /> 3. 3/10/81 <br /> <br /> <br />
