Ms. Sylvia Glafkides, 737 Happy Valley Road, stated there were no laws to protect <br /> the rural way of life and she felt Council should have a sense of what is right and <br /> wrong and to allow this area to remain as it is now. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bud Barlow, 6723 Alisal Street, stated this area has been rural since the <br /> turn of the century. He stated that Mr. Quick's proposal is not consistent with <br /> this area. He requested Council to consider the rural atmosphere and access to the <br /> property. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary Smith, 720 Sycamore Road, stated he moved to this residence so that he <br /> could raise horses and he did not want to see that changed. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Janet Linfoot, 6300 Alisal Street, resident for 17 years and owner of ten <br /> acres, stated there are lots of children in this area that ride horses and she did <br /> not want that life style changed. <br /> <br /> Dr. Abud, 925 Sycamore Road, stated that Couhcil should address the traffic <br />problems in the Sunol Boulevard and Sycamore Road area before considering any fur- <br />ther annexation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Peter Bailey, Alisal Street, stated he was concerned about further annexa- <br />tions and how it will affect streets and trees. He proposed that Council consider <br />a buffer area between Sycamore Road and the area to be annexed so that the rural <br />atmosphere could be preserved. <br /> <br /> Ms. Nan Donner, 582 Happy Valley Road, resident for 25 years, stated'she is <br />concerned about where children can ride animals. She inquired about the ordinance <br />prohibiting horses on Main Street. Staff advised there is an alternate route that <br />can be used by horseback riders. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Cooper, 6525 Alisal Street, stated she is concerned about children's <br />activities such as 4-H and FFA clubs. She stated these groups are actively in- <br />volved in the raising of animals to show at the Alameda County Fair each year. <br />She stated she felt it would be unfair not to allow the continuance of this whole- <br />some activity and asked Council to preserve this way of life style. <br /> <br /> Mr. Earl Bocca, 446 Sycamore Road, stated he had recently paid a quarter of a <br />million dolars for property so that he could have horses, and he certainly did not <br />want any change that would prevent him from keeping his animals. <br /> <br /> Ms. Dartill Huran, 6330 Alisal, stated she wanted to keep the area the way it <br />is now. <br /> <br /> Ms. Nancy Fields, 581 Happy Valley Road, stated she had Just recently moved <br />here from New Jersey and had selected her home because of the rural atmosphere even <br />though she did not have any animals. She stated she did not want any change of the <br />area. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bill Tumey, 6016 Alisal, stated he felt no one should buy property in this <br />area for further development of the land. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Wood stated he had felt for a long time that the City Council and <br />City have been vrong in trying to put our City lifestyle on a rural area, and with <br />the input tonight he did not see how a negative declaration could hold up in court. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Mohr stated she felt this particular area is entitled to preserve <br />their rural atmosphere if they so desire. She stated there are water and septic tank <br />problems but the people are aware of this and if they are willing to live with these <br />problems then City Council should not dictate any changes. <br /> <br /> 8. 10/27/81 <br /> <br /> <br />
