with the approval of the motion is it putting the situation on <br /> Hopyard Road in a more favorable light in terms of future expan- <br /> sion of that road or would it be more appropriate to have Hopyard <br /> Road as a completely separate issue when the time arises that it <br /> might be necessary, rather than put it in now. <br /> <br /> Councilmember Butler explained that his motion leaves Hopyard <br /> Road as it is now. <br /> <br /> Mr. Dale Zalenski, 4650 Del Valle Parkway, stated he felt <br /> there is no need to widen Hopyard Road. <br /> <br /> Mr. James Zukelly stated he did not feel the City has a com- <br /> plete total plan and that better planning is needed; he does not <br /> want to see Pleasanton develop as Modesto has with its poor <br /> planning. <br /> <br />-- Mr. Earl Augusta asked to be notified when the easterly side <br /> of Main Street is considered. Mayor Mercer advised this issue <br /> will be considered on November 5th, and instructed staff to send <br /> Mr. Augusta the appropriate notice and report. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mercer commended the audience for their businesslike <br /> approach to the issue and thanked them for their attendance and <br /> participation in this matter. <br /> <br /> MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC <br /> Mrs. Dorothy Bevard, 7974 Hillsboro Court, stated that the <br /> Alameda Planning Commission will again be considering the quarry <br /> permit for the Moller property on Foothill Road. She asked Coun- <br /> cil and the audience to support her in opposing this issue. <br /> Mayor Mercer and Councilmember Brandes stated they would attend <br /> the meeting to restate the City's position in opposition to the <br /> Moller quarry. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Bevard stated that this property is also used as a gun <br /> range, which creates a very dangerous situation. Mayor Mercer <br /> instructed the Police Chief to investigate this matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. George Spiliotopoulos, representing over 150 citizens in <br /> the Valley who recently participated in a golf tournament, stated <br /> _ this is an annual affair to raise funds for Pleasanton senior <br /> citizens projects. He presented a check in the amount of <br /> $4,000.00 to be used at the discretion of staff for a worthwhile <br /> senior citizen project. Mayor Mercer and Councilmembers ex- <br /> pressed appreciation to Mr. Spiliotopoulos for his outstanding <br /> efforts in this worthwhile cause. Mayor Mercer stated that the <br /> golf tournament (GASIT) has been an on-going affair for some time <br /> now and should be supported in the future. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Kaye Wellman, 4565 Shearwater, member of the Planning <br /> Commission, asked that a Post Office Committee be formed to re- <br /> view the information generated thusfar regarding problems associ- <br /> ated with the U. S. Postal Service in Pleasanton. She suggested <br /> that the committee consist of one City Councilmember, one Plan- <br /> ning Commissioner, a postal service representative, a Chamber of <br /> <br /> - 10 - 10-15-85 <br /> <br /> <br />
