271
the route should go easterly into the vineyards area. He requested the City
to assert some form of influence at the PUC hearings that would show the most
easterly route as the best alternative. He urged early Council involvement in
the PUC process and help in assuring that an Enviromental Impact Report will
be done.

Mr. Martin Inderbitzen, 62 W. Neal Street, representing Kottinger and Lund
Ranches as well as himself as a citizen in the eastern part of the City,
stated there needs to be interplay between PG&E and the City. He urged City
involvement in the PUC hearings; he stated it is a matter of economics for
-- development of the Kottinger and Lund property, as well as adverse visual im-
pact for the eastern portion of the community.

Mr. Vic Lund, 1500 Minnie Street, stated he has traveled some of the pro-
posed routes and that some part of the towers will be visible from every part
of Pleasanton, but especially visible for those residents in the eastern por-
tion of the City. He felt PG&E has shown a blatant lack of sensitivity to the
Valley. He stated he realizes the need for additional power, but this should
not be obtained through disruption of one of the most aesthetically pleasing
developments in Pleasanton. He urged that PG&E use the route proposed in
1970. Mr. Lund presented a map showing the proposed PG&E routes as well as
suggested routes which he felt would cause much less adverse impact on the
{v') eastern portion of the community. He stated it is important that all citizens
([}') be notified of the public hearings and various other meetings in order to have
~-~ complete input regarding this matter.
Ill
~ Mr. Bud Martin, 2751Crellin Road, owner of an approved project that will
be greatly affected if Alternate Route 2 is approved. He stated the proposed
~ towers and cables will create a problem in the near future as well as have

ramifications for a long time to come. He felt PG&E has been somewhat ir-
responsible in not contacting him regarding this matter. He stated that adja-
cent property owners were not notified either. He advised that undergrounding
will be less expensive in the future and would suggest that the route go out
into the Ruby Hills area until such time as it could be undergrounded.

Mr. Bob Graham, 2503 Vineyard Avenue, owner of five acres of vineyards,
stated he is concerned about what is going on, and wondered why the towers
have to be so big.

Mr. A1 Sportano, owner of property adjacent to the Lund Ranch, stated he
concurs with the comments of Mr. Lund. He stated these iron monsters will be
atrocious. He would like to have the lines undergrounded; if this cannot be
done, then place the towers on the east side of the ridge.

Mr. Bruce Fielder, 250 Kottinger Drive, stated he has walked the area
relative to another project, and he feels the towers and lines will be visible
from a major area of the City. He suggested that an artist's rendering be
done to show the visual effect of the towers and cables on various sections of
the community.

Mayor Brandes thanked the audience for their participation on this issue
and urged everyone to attend the various meetings and public hearings relative
to the matter.

It was moved by Mayor Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember Butler, that
Resolution No. 86-172, directing staff to notify the PUC that the PG&E tower

13 - 4-15-86
